Bio *

DJ Jamison grew up in the Midwest, where she was the living embodiment of the phrase β€œred-headed stepchild.” Growing up in a working class family, DJ was determined to create a more secure future by graduating from college. As a bookworm, though, DJ secretly always wanted to be an author. She was the first in her immediate family to graduate from college and went on to work in the newspaper industry for more than a decade, which came in handy when she began a m/m romance series centered on a small-town news staff and their love connections. When she’s not laboring over her works of fiction, she reads copious amounts of books on her phone. She’s married with two sons and three glow-in-the-dark fish that are miraculously still alive.

Question 1

So, what have you written?

I’ve written a seven-part series called Ashe Sentinel Connections about a small-town Kansas news staff and their love connections. The books are set in the same universe but can be read as standalones for the most part. I’m launching a spin-off series off Heart Trouble – which included an ER nurse — called Hearts & Health. Book 1 of that series, titled Bedside Manner, will release March 9.

Question 2

How many books to your series? (if it is a series)

My new series launching in March, Hearts & Health, is set in Ashe, Kansas, and focuses on hospital staff and their love interests. My earlier series, Ashe Sentinel Connections, has 7 books focused on a small-town news staff. Heart Trouble, Book 6, includes the story of an ER nurse and inspired the start of the Hearts & Health series. The books are designed to work as standalones that exist in the same universe.

Question 3

Do you think that giving books away free works and why?

To an extent, yes, but I find that offering a giveaway such as a $5 amazon giftcard works much better because instead of waiting to see if they won a book, readers are more likely to shop and just be happy if they get some extra money. But if you mean giving away books, like doing a free book promo, that can help expose more people to your work and result in future sales, so I definitely do that from time to time.

Question 4

How has your writing evolved since your first book?

My first book was a novella, and it was definitely a test to see if anyone would even read my work. I did revise it a little after it was released, but I now am writing books that are longer with more complex story lines. I like to think each book gets a little better than the last one.

Question 5

Is there a certain type of scene that’s harder for you to write than any others? Love? Action? Romance? Tragedy?

Hmm, probably tragedy because I’ve had a fairly good life and it would test my imagination more to adequately convey how people would react in those situations. Sex scenes can be challenging at times. They’re easy to write, but not always easy to write well, if that makes sense.

Question 6

What do you think makes your book stand out from the crowd?

Like all authors, I tend to think my unique voice and style is what makes my books stand out from others. This new book – and series as a whole — focuses on medical staff, and I don’t think we see a ton of books about nurses and doctors in the m/m genre. It’s angsty but uplifting, as is most of my writing. I tend to specialize in socially awkward characters — sometimes that means nerdy guys, and sometimes that just means someone who doesn’t fit in with the crowd in some other way — and I do enjoy embarrassing them.

Bedside Manner

(BLURB)

Dr. Paul Johnston can’t get a set of dark, somber eyes out of his head, and the timing couldn’t be worse. The last thing he needs is to fall for a patient. Not now, when he’s been put on paid leave pending review of a formal complaint. One that accuses him of sexual impropriety of some kind. It’s possible he let his newfound freedom as a divorced, out-of-the-closet gay man go to his head, but he’s certain — mostly — he didn’t do anything wrong. Now, he’s struggling to handle the reality that his job is in danger and the only guy he wants should be off-limits. Zane Kavanaugh is floundering, and there’s only one man who soothes the storm inside him. Reeling from an assault that landed him in the hospital and the painful estrangement from his family since coming out, Zane is trying to get his feet under him. He moves in with a roommate and searches for a job, all while recovering from a fractured arm and cracked ribs. None of that hurts as much as the emotional damage he’s suffered. When he connects with Dr. Paul Johnston outside of the ER, he’s drawn to the man’s calm, collected manner. It doesn’t hurt that Paul’s lack of experience with men is sexy as hell, and so are his over-the-top responses when Zane gets his lips on him. There’s no right time to fall in love. Paul is afraid to start a relationship, and Zane can only handle so much more rejection. Will these two find their perfect moment, or will they realize you can’t choose when and how you fall in love? If Paul can’t take a risk, he may have to choose: the career he loves or the first man to capture his heart.
