“You can call me Hunter. I’m the man that took your
wife Lisa and I’m also the man that will be taking things from you and your
friends. I will be taking everything you care about and watching as your life
and anyone else’s life you are involved in falls to the ground.”
I couldn’t help but grind my teeth. Hearing him
threaten my friends and family ignited a fire in me and I couldn’t stop what
came out next, “Listen here you piece of shit. I’m going to take great pride in
bringing you down. I don’t care if its dead or alive, I will find you and I
will end you. You will not touch another one of the people I care about.”
Hunter as he calls himself starts to laugh, “Oh but I
already have Shane but maybe you should ask Macy where I am right now because I
think it may interest you very much.”
I turned fast to look at Macy, she has her head down
and was still typing furiously. She suddenly stopped, she looked like she had
seen a ghost.
“He is outside Dawson’s house Shane!”
The voice on the phone began to laugh again, “You
can’t be everywhere and you can’t be anywhere. See you soon Shane.” With that
the call ended.
Macy was already on her phone relaying the information
to Dawson, I could hear Dawson’s voice raise and that’s when I looked at the
time, Sam would just be stepping out to walk Alyssa to preschool. The school
was at the end of their block and Sam walked everyday to get there.
I quickly hit dial on Sam’s name from my contacts. It
rang… “Come on Sam pick up” I could hear Macy behind me scrambling to get
dressed, I took a cue from her and grabbed whatever was closest to me and threw
it on.
“Hi Shane, what a…”  I heard Sam’s voice, I don’t let her
finish her sentence, “Sam you need to get in doors now! You need to be off the
street.”
I could hear her telling Alyssa to hurry up. Then I
could hear it the sound of an engine revving to life. “Sam move, move now!”
I heard Alyssa scream and then the phone went dead.

Actions have consequences. In the blink of an eye everything you have held dear, everything you have taken for granted… can vanish.

Lub dub … Lub dub… when you are taking out a target at 800 meters every part of your body slows. Complete control is mandatory. Muscle memory takes over. Action and reaction are instinctual. But what if something is off? The little voice in your head screaming STOP!

The moment Owen Stark’s finger squeezed the trigger all hell broke loose. The deadly round traveled at 2,550 feet per second straight into his target. As she fell, her identity became as evident as the growing crimson stain on her chest. The world fell silent. Despite the chaos around him, Stark could hear nothing but the pounding of his heart and the screaming inside his head. For the love of God woman, please GET UP! He begged over and over, but the blue heap of fabric that shrouded Kira Riley did not move.

All his training, everything he had spent the last decade preparing for came down to this moment. Faced with desperate circumstances, Owen Stark must make the impossible choice between the safety of his team and the chance to save the love of his life. When the last tear has fallen, and those lost are laid to rest, will he be able to open his heart and live again, or will the nightmares drag him to an unthinkable resolution?

Sometimes, when the sacrifice is too great to bear, Love finds a way to bring you home.

Jo Raven Dirty Princes: A Standalone MMF Romantic Comedy

Title: Dirty Princes: A Standalone MMF Romantic Comedy
Author: Jo Raven
Genre: Menage Romance

Once upon a time, there lived a princess called Brylee who had a cat and a steady job and her eye on a handsome prince.
But Prince Ryan refused to put out. So she baked cookies and buttered muffins, without any double meaning whatsoever, and saved her cherry for her prince.
Who was being difficult and not following the damn script.
Then Riddick walked through the door and ate her cookie.
Literally, okay? It was a good cookie, too, with chocolate chip.
Riddick is drop-dead gorgeous, but not a prince. Regardless, Brylee can’t fight that burning attraction.
Even when Ryan does a turn-about and starts showing interest in her, after all this time.
This isn’t how things were supposed to happen. She was supposed to get a prince, not get caught between a hot prince and a hunky pauper.
Come on.
Especially not when said prince and pauper can’t stand each other.
Brylee isn’t above letting two men fight for her. That’s the essence of a good fairytale, right? A fight, a winner, a grand wedding and a happily ever after.
It’s fine. After all, she doesn’t want them both.
At the same time. In her bed. Like, ever.
#FamousLastWords

Reconnaissance.
With a wink at Simone, I get up from my rowing machine and grab my towel, then make my way toward him.
This is a huge gym, new, the machines gleaming, the people dressed in trendy exercise clothes, their MP3 players flashing as they move. Strong, lithe bodies, with barely any hint of sweat.
Self-consciously I adjust my top. It’s like everyone passed an exam to enter. It makes me wonder how Simone and I made the cut.
Not that I don’t take care of my body. I sure do, and I even drag my best friend Candy along when she’s not too busy having wild sex with her two boyfriends.
Two. Boyfriends. Did you catch that?
Total overkill if you ask me. And still no idea how she did it. I’ve been trying to get one guy—Ryan—for the past year, one—and still no dice.
It doesn’t matter. It will be worth it in the end. Not everyone gets their soulmate on the first try.
Or the hundredth, for that matter. Hundred-and-twenty-fifth to be precise. Hey, it’s a good number. These things take work.
And I do work it as I approach Ryan, as Simone advised me to do after watching Pretty Woman, swinging my hips and lifting my chin, letting my ponytail swish against my back.
He’s getting ready to start, draping his manly black towel on the seat of a rowing machine and… whoa.
Red alert. His T-shirt molds to an impressively sculpted chest and set of shoulders, his corded arms in full display, a picture straight out of Men’s Health magazine.
Holy guacamole.
Woo.
But of course I shouldn’t be shocked. I chose him. He’s everything a man should be. He just has to see I am the girl for him.
That’s why he’s single. He’s been waiting for me all along.

I check myself out in front of the mirror, making sure my hair looks okay. Wait, why the hell am I checking my hair?
I’m nervous. I feel like I did the night of my prom. Butterflies in my stomach and sweaty palms as I get ready for what is to be one of the biggest nights of my life. So I may be overreacting, but for me, this is a big step.
“You can do this,” I tell myself, taking one last look in the mirror and walking out of my place to my SUV.
The drive to the compound feels like it goes by in seconds and before I know it, I’m outside Kitty’s cottage and lifting my hand to knock on her door.
    “One sec!” she shouts.
I clear my throat, shuffle on the spot and then look on either side of me.
When I came to the compound earlier, I came under the pretense to talk to Ty, but both he and I knew that I was only there to see Kitty. Apparently, we weren’t as incognito as we thought and he knew all along.
He told me that he knew I hadn’t been ready to talk about it yet, that he knew I’d tell him when I was good and ready. I thought he wouldn’t be happy about it, me doing what I’ve done to Kitty but the look in his eyes as he was sitting across from me told me that he understood, at least, as much as he could.
When I walked past the kitchen in the warehouse and saw her standing there, I knew that it was time. Time to let the past go and live in the moment, and for the future.
The sound of the door opening gains my attention and I look to Kitty, my breath catching in my throat. My eyes track her from head to toe, taking in her curves in the green, off the shoulder dress that flows over her body perfectly and ends just above her knees. Her creamy legs on full display and ending on those black stiletto’s, and her lavender hair flowing over her shoulders in soft, enticing curls.
    “Hey,” she whispers.
    “Hey.”
I stand there, not knowing what to say or do. She’s completely captivated me. I’ve never seen her dressed like this; all she wears are her work clothes or pajamas, or when I’m around, preferably nothing.
    “Charlie? Are we going?”
“Huh? Ah, yeah.” I grip the back of my neck, trying to get ahold of myself. “Let’s go.”
I spin around and walk as fast as I can to my SUV, pressing the fob and pulling the driver’s door open.
    “Ahem.”
“Oh, shit, sorry.” I jog around to the other side and open up the door, closing it when she’s safely inside.
“Charlie?” she asks as I start the engine.
    “Yeah?”
She places her hand on my forearm, squeezing gently. “Calm down, it’s just me.”
    It’s just her. Just. Her.
I take a deep breath and close my eyes, opening them back up after a couple of seconds and pulling her hand off my arm, bringing it to my lips and kissing her palm.
    “Sorry, I’m just—”
    “Nervous.” She smiles.
“Yeah.” I blow out an audible breath and let her hand go, grinning and then driving out of there.

    Addiction ~ NOUN
The fact or condition of being addicted to a particular substance or activity.

    I’m a strong woman.
Or at least, I think I am. I used to be so sure about that.
I trained everyday, making sure I could take down anyone that I needed to. Mixed martial arts, kickboxing, self-defense, karate. You name it, I’ve done it.
I prided myself on being not only physically strong but mentally too. I knew mind games, I knew how to put on a front.
I may be small in size but I like to think of myself as a pocket rocket.
    Quick thinking, fast reflexes.
When I was younger, I was known as the delicate little flower, the person people needed to protect, to not let get hurt.
    I hated it.
I didn’t want someone who was paid to protect me, I wanted to be able to do that shit myself and that started with leaving home at eighteen with only a couple of hundred bucks and a bag full of clothes on my back to get away from my father.
But I never expected to meet him along the way.
The person whose eyes were full of sadness and heartbreak. The person who turned my world upside down and my heart inside out.
The problem? He only wanted someone to warm his bed at night, and that was okay for a while. Until I wanted more.
Competing with someone who didn’t exist anymore was impossible, and that’s exactly what I was doing when it came to him.
There was a time when I thought I could pull him out of the darkness but now I know that won’t happen, not while I’m slipping into that darkness myself and especially not while I’m in a love affair with those pretty little pills.
They gave me relief, calmed my body and soul, all the while destroying everything that I worked to become and all that I am.
Now? Now it’s just me and them.
