Charming Marjani by Rebecca Rivar

Title: Charming Marjani
Series: A Fada Shapeshifter Novel
Author: Rebecca Rivard
Genre: Sexy Paranormal Romance
Release Date: January 2, 2019
He’s rich, sexy…and part-fae. But she’s a shifter assassin on a mission. She can’t let herself be charmed…
Marjani Savonett is the strong, silent second-in-command to her alpha brother. She’s seen too much death, lived through too much darkness. Now her cat threatens to take over, leaving her a cougar in a human body. But before it does, she undertakes one last mission to Iceland.
Fane Morningstar holds a prestigious position as one of the ice fae king’s envoys. But the fae never let him forget he’s not a pureblood. Then he meets Marjani and everything he ever thought he wanted gets turned on its head. He’d sell his soul for a night with her.
Unfortunately, he just might have to…
*NOTE: Charming Marjani is book 2 in the Darktime Trilogy (after Saving Jace), but it can be read as a standalone. If you like dark shifters, dangerous fae and intense, emotional storylines, the Fada Shapeshifter Series is for you.*
Marjani’s skin prickled. She sipped her ale and glanced around.
A tall, rangy man with shoulder-length blond hair slouched at a nearby table, drinking a beer. He met her eyes, not bothering to hide that he was checking her out.
Her breath snagged.
Holy singing crystals, he was beautiful, with slanted cheekbones and sky-blue eyes framed by dark eyelashes. His straight nose had a small bump on the bridge, a tiny imperfection that only heightened his appeal, and his black ribbed sweater stretched across a hard chest.
His cheek creased in a smile—and fear wrapped icy fingers around her lungs.
She jerked her gaze back to her sandwich, her stomach tight, heart thudding in her ears.
Fuck, she hated this. A couple of years ago, she might have smiled back, seen where this led. But not anymore. No one touched her. She didn’t even let members of the clan get too close.
A shadow fell across the table.
She snarled, her cougar rising to meet the threat. She forced it down. Shifting in the middle of a human pub could be fatal. The fada and humans had treaties about those things. A fada shifting in a pub for no reason would be automatically targeted by the authorities as feral.
She could be slapped in a cage—or shot on sight.
And she’d have to admit Adric was right after all—she was too broken, too close to going feral, to be out on her own.
The tall blond smiled down at her. Spoke.
Still fighting the cougar, she had to concentrate to make sense of his words.
“I said, mind if I join you?” A surprisingly deep voice, gravel wrapped in silk.
She shook her head. “Yes.”
He lifted a single dark brow. “No, you don’t mind, or yes, you do?”
“Yeah, I mind. I don’t want company.”
His gaze went to the slight lump her quartz made beneath her sweater. “Your accent is American, which means you’re from one of two clans.”
Fine hairs rose all over her body. He was correct; the only earth fada clans in North America were her own clan in Baltimore and the Navajo clan in Arizona.
But how the hell had he made her as an earth fada so fast?
Her nostrils flared, subtly testing the air. Human—he smelled of salt and iron—but with a trace of silver. The man had fae blood, although it might be so faint he didn’t know it himself. Overlaying it was a pleasant grassy scent, as if he spent a lot of time outdoors.
Her cat liked his smell, but the human part of her didn’t like that hint of fae. Not on top of the fact that he knew a little too much about earth fada.
She eased the switchblade from her pocket and released the catch with a quiet snick.
“You don’t want to use that.” He set his plate and glass on her table and took the chair across from her.
USA TODAY bestselling author Rebecca Rivard read way too many romances as a teenager, little realizing she was actually preparing for a career. She now spends her days with dark shifters, sexy fae and other magical creatures—which has to be the best job ever.
Four of her books have been awarded the prestigious Crowned Review from InD’Tale Magazine, and her novel Saving Jace (#4, Fada Shapeshifters) received the 2018 RONE Silver Medal for Long Paranormal. Stealing Ula: A Fada Shapeshifter Prequel was a 2017 Finalist for the coveted PRISM Award given by RWA’s Fantasy, Futuristic & Paranormal Romance Chapter.

On paper, Mikaela has the life every girl dreams of. She is young, beautiful, intelligent, and filthy rich. It all means nothing to her since she pines for the man who will never love her back. But that isn’t the only source of pain. Dark secrets are tangled in the forgotten memories haunting her. Five years is a lot of time to lose… Eric Hardwick fits the description of tall, dark, and handsome to a T. A successful attorney and loyal best friend to Mika Kingsley, he’s hopelessly devoted to the one woman who has broken his heart. She’s strictly off limits to him…but that doesn’t mean he won’t do anything and everything to protect her from harm. The unstable Kingsley patriarch, Mason Kingsley, is back, bringing danger and mayhem along with him. Her lost memories might be the key to their salvation…or their destruction. Will Mikaela be Reclaiming Tomorrow?

My heart leaps like a wild stag in my throat as Carl announces that Eric Hardwick is on his way up. A kaleidoscope of butterflies appears out of nowhere and take refuge in my belly. It’s ridiculous how I turn into a cat in heat when Eric is even mentioned. I wonder why he’s so early? I close my eyes and take a deep breath to help calm my nerves. I quickly look at my reflection in the mirror. I’m not sure if I like what I see, but it’s too late to do anything about that right now. So, I just smooth out the skirt of my dress before I finally open the door, the elevator doors sliding wide before Eric steps out. Every nerve ending in my body screams. He has a large bouquet of wildflowers—my favorite—in one hand and a large gift bag in the other. He saunters towards me and I swallow hard. All tall, dark and handsome with that sexy-as-hell smirk on his face. God, why is this man so incredibly hot? My desire for him emerges the moment my gaze drops on him and hangs between us in the air. His eyes sweep over me and I feel my cheeks burn, I don’t have to see my reflection to know how red my cheeks are right now.

“Well, aren’t you a sight for sore eyes, Lady Kingsley. You look beautiful, as always.” He says as he holds the flowers out to me.

If he wasn’t this charming to everyone, I might take this behavior for flirting, but—sadly for me—I know better.

“For me?” I ask sheepishly as I accept the flowers.

“Yes, ma’am. I seem to remember that these are your favorites. Right?”

I nod, feeling uncharacteristically shy. He leans in and his lips brush my cheek as he greets me. My knees nearly buckle. And I quadruple my efforts to keep myself together.

“Thank you, they are gorgeous. I will go put them in some water.” I croak.

I turn quickly and biting my bottom lip I head towards the kitchen, trying to compose myself. Praying for a few moments away from the intense pull I feel when I am near him. But that hope is dashed when I realize that he follows right behind me.

“Wow, it smells incredible in here.”

I keep my back facing him while I fill a vase with water. “Mackenzie is an incredible chef. Have you not yet eaten at Indigenous?”

“I’ve not had the pleasure. But just judging from the delicious aroma in here, I am sure that will change soon.”

I turn and face him with the brightest smile I can conjure up. “Well, it is hard to get a table there.”

Eric raises a brow in amusement. “Is that a fact?”

“It is,” I tell him. “Luckily for you though, you have amazing connections. I am sure I can hook you up.” I add with a wink.

He smirks at me and I beam back at him. Talking to Eric is as natural as breathing to me. It feels so easy and unforced. “Would you like a drink?”

“After the day I had today, I could use about six. But let’s start with one.”

“Is wine okay? Or would you prefer something with a little more kick?”

“Wine is fine.”

“Do you still prefer white?” I ask.

Eric raises his brow in surprise. “I do, actually.”

I smile and walk towards the fridge, pull out a bottle and pour him a glass of wine. When I turn to walk over to him and hand him his glass, he’s standing right behind me. I gasp. He’s so close. I slowly raise my head and look up at him. Our eyes meet and I swear the temperature in the room increases drastically. It feels as if the planet has stopped turning on its axis. We stand there for a moment not saying anything. There are so many things that I wish I could tell him. And I swear a couple of times it looks as if he wants to say something too. But neither of us speaks nor looks away. I feel as if I am under his spell, drowning in the silver pools that are his irises. I bite my lip in an attempt to avoid confessing my feelings for him and making a fool of myself.

.Midst of Winter

In the Midst of Winter shares ways to cope for those suffering from misunderstood chronic illnesses, and a glimpse into our daily lives for those who wish to understand. It also testifies of the Savior’s ability to reach into each heart and bring hope and renewal.

At age fourteen, Danice Hope started having troubles functioning during the winter months. Each year, the fatigue and depression grew worse. During the summers, her health would improve, and she learned to fit as much joy into life as possible before winter returned. After six years, she was finally diagnosed with seasonal affective disorder. Over time, she realized that there was also beauty in winter. She found a poster with flowers growing out of the snow that said, “In the midst of winter I finally learned that there was in me an invincible summer.”

In the mid 1990’s, Danice moved south to Arizona with the hope of improving her health enough to have a better life. While the SAD improved, she found herself developing new health problems. The biggest surprise was that she could be sitting slumped over in a wheelchair in the emergency room, barely able to speak or move, and doctor after doctor told her that she wasn’t ill, or that it was “just anxiety”. After going to twenty-four different doctors in the next year, she was diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome. Stunned at the loss of her hopes and dreams, she gradually learned to see in new ways, to balance her health, to reshape her dreams, and to look to Christ. She learned that flowers can grow not only in the snow, but also in the desert sun.

Danice Hope has been married to the same loving, supportive husband for 26 years. They live in the deserts of the American Southwest, where the winters are mild. Their two lovable cats keep them busy.

Danice loved to roam the mountains of Utah in her younger years, and to see the variety of wildflowers each spring. She has enjoyed writing since she was old enough to write. She takes solace in reading the scriptures and other good books. She is grateful for God’s care and guidance through the distresses of life.

Hacked Hearts by Jade Webb

Title: Hacked Hearts
Author: Jade Webb
Genre: Romantic Comedy
Published: December 12, 2018
“Hacked Hearts give you intrigue and such a sweet romance!” ~ The Red Hatter Book Blog
“… filled with action, suspense, humor, romance, and is an emotional roller coaster throughout.” ~ Wendy’s Book Blog
“… a smooth perfect balance between suspense and romance.” ~ Goodreads Review
Mia Rollins has a problem.
A ten million dollar problem.
There’s a bounty on her head and some really shady people are hoping for a big payout when they find her.
The only problem is she has no idea who wants her, or why.
So she enlists the help of the one person in this world who can help her: Diego Medina, journalist wonderkin and notorious playboy. And when he chooses to ignore her pleas for help, Mia resorts to … a more creative Plan B. After all, desperate times call for desperate measures, right?
But the one thing Mia didn’t realize is that by hacking her way into Diego’s life, she also may have hacked her way into his heart.
“I didn’t seduce you. I was trying to get your attention, since you ignored my text!”
“And you thought showing me your tits would do it?” “Well, it worked, didn’t it?” she shoots back.
I’m silent for a moment, because she’s right. It did work. I don’t even have the mental bandwidth to try to dissect what that says about me as a person. Likely nothing good.
“What do you want from me?” I finally ask.
“Really? How can I simplify this even more?” she asks, her voice laced with obvious irritation. “Ten-million-dollar bounty on my head. I need you to figure out who the hell wants me and why. Your father was obsessed with this case. I know he kept detailed notes. Maybe there’s something in his notes that will lead us to figure out who the hell wants me so badly.”
Her mention of my father and his obsession strikes a nerve, and I feel my blood chill. I harden my voice. “Okay, hold on one second. First of all, there is no ‘us.’ And second, why not go to the police if you’re so concerned about this?”
She laughs, but it’s hollow, and there’s a hint of her voice trembling beneath her false bravado. “The police can’t do anything and will only force me back outside. I’m safer where I am, but I know I’m running out of time. Ten million dollars is a lot of money, and all I can do is try to run the clock out.”
Though I can tell she’s trying to fight it, the sadness and helplessness is clear in her words, and it hits me on a cellular level. She’s terrified. And while I want to blow her off, to tell her to leave me the hell alone, I can’t, though I’m not sure why. Because yes, she gave me one of the best orgasms of my life without even being in the same room, but there’s still something else. I feel drawn to helping her—maybe because of the fear in her voice, or my need to figure out what it is about her that seems to wake something inside me.
She lets out a long breath. “Look, I know you hate me. I know you probably blame me—or my father—for your dad becoming so obsessed with the case and eventually…” she trails off, not daring to say what we’ve all been too scared— too polite—to say out loud. “But I don’t have anyone else. I can’t leave my apartment. I can’t do this on my own. I need someone on the outside who knows the case and can help me. If I figure out who is ordering this, I might have a chance at surviving.”
I am a lover of romance novels that feature strong heroines who know that the loves that may come into their lives are always the icing, and never the cake.
I have loved romance novels since I was a teen, sneaking them into my Bible studies at my all-girls Catholic school. I love strong heroines who know that the men that may come into their lives are always the icing, and never the cake.
Thanks to my own marriage, I have learned that the challenges of life can only help to make love stronger and I am grateful to my partner for embodying all the magic that love can offer.
When I am not writing or dreaming up new love stories, I am working in a retirement community outside of Boston that provides me with enough writing material for ten lifetimes.
