Zoe

I’ll probably never be completely healed, but damn it, I’m going to try and live the way I’m supposed to live. My life, my future, and my dreams depend on it. The day I left my old life is the day I could finally breathe easier.

Only one thing stands in the way of my anxiety returning. His name is Maks Rush. I never thought I would have that warm and fuzzy feeling inside me again. I don’t trust men, but Maks with his whiskey brown eyes, just enough beard to be sexy, and six-foot stature, does things to me.

I only hope that my past doesn’t ruin my future. Too much pain, too much pressure to look a certain way, fearing my old habits will return…I will show you assholes what type of person I am.

My name is Zoe Carter, and I’m stronger than the hell I lived through.

Maks

I’m not the guy that everyone in this town believes me to be. My past, just like others, haunts me, but then Zoe Carter came waltzing into Franklin, Tennessee, and I haven’t been able to stop thinking about her. She’s here to stay, and I want to show her the real me, the me no one else knows.

Regardless of what happens, Zoe has invaded my senses, leaving me craving more. And each time our paths cross, she becomes more intriguing to me.

Will we be able to mend each other, or will we fall apart?

**Trigger Warning** Deals with sensitive subjects and mental health.

Closing my eyes, I inhale a deep breath. When I open them, I take one final peek at myself, making sure I’m put together as much as I can be, and step out, planning on saying goodbye to everyone before I leave. However, before I make it a couple of steps, I’m hit. “Motherfucker!” I yell, landing on my ass.

“Fuck! Are you okay?” That voice. I know it well. I don’t even have to glance up to see if I’m right. Maks. The man I’ve been avoiding. The man who has filled my thoughts since the day I met him on my first visit to Franklin.

“I’m fine.” I dust my hands off and tilt my head back to find Maks standing there as gorgeous today as he was then. Stretching his hand toward me, he smiles, and I place mine in his as I joke, “I guess we need to pay more attention to our surroundings.”

Maks pulls me up from the ground with so much force, I crash into his rock hard chest in seconds. God, he feels nice.

“Maybe it’s not so bad having a slight collision every once in a while,” Maks whispers when I meet his gaze.

Swallowing hard, I back away from him. “No, I think collisions are too dangerous.” I can’t stay here anymore. “I’ve got to go.” I scurry around him and head for the exit.

“Zoe! Zoe!” I hear Maks calling my name as I round the corner.

Don’t look back. Don’t answer. Keep moving forward.I pick up my pace, making it to Missy’s car and unlocking it. Peering over the roof, I find Maks standing there. He’s followed me out, but I can’t stay and listen to anything he has to say. Instead, I shake my head no and climb into the car to drive away.
