The Wraith

The Wraith
by Bryan W. Alaspa
Genre: Horror, Suspense, Thriller
***FROM THE AUTHOR OF THE BESTSELLING THE MAN FROM TAURED COMES A COMPANION NOVEL EXPLORING NEW DIMENSIONS OF HORROR***
The tiny town of Knorr, PA, is one of those places where the walls between this reality and others is very thin. It draws people from all over the world and sometimes things slip through from our world into others while sometimes things slip from other worlds into our own. Nightmare things.
During World War II an experiment was done using a steam engine to see if entering another dimension could create instant transportation of goods and men from one place to another. It unlocked a nightmare from another dimension and only agents from the agency IDEA were able to stop reality from unraveling. The train, known as The Wraith, disappeared along with the scientist who built it.
Now, in present day, a young man hears the distant sound of a train whistle. The rundown train station at the end of the wooded path is somehow regenerating. Plus, people in and around Knorr are acting a little stranger than normal.
The Wraith is coming back, but it’s not coming alone.
Will Knorr survive? Will the universe?

Title: Retribution
Series: Youngblood Series #2
Author: Monique Orgeron
Genre: Romantic Suspense
Release Date: August 1, 2019
My retribution may be over, but my future remains controlled by my past.
A son always pays for his father’s sins.
Stripped of everything, I was punished for crimes I believed my father was wrongly accused of.
My need for revenge blinded me.
Faced with the truth, I was forced to make a choice that went against what I’d fought so hard for.
With my atonement complete, I’m asked what would make me happy.
I had it once and the very person who gave it to me is the same one who robbed me of it.
How can I look forward when I’m tortured by memories of her?
The girl I loved with all my heart and now hate with all I am.
Sometimes love isn’t good for you.
Sometimes, you have to love yourself enough to see the destruction ahead and simply move out of the way.
I once loved a boy who was determined to continually hurt himself.
For a chance to prove himself worthy.
He was worthy in my eyes, but it wasn’t enough.
Then a secret opened my eyes to see the years of pain and hurt the future held.
Leaving, I took a risk for a better future, but my return unravels a spiral of betrayal.
I know I will be at their mercy.
SHANE Two stupid shows later, I’m still watching the clock and window, waiting for her to be dropped off. Another half an hour show later, I find myself on the steps of my porch. Looking around, I see something off in the distance but it’s not a car. Standing, I walk off the porch and walk down the walkway. The first thing I recognize is the poofy pale pink dress. “Jolie.” Without another thought, I go running down the street to meet her. The closer I get, I see she’s carrying, her high heel shoes in her hands and she has her dress gathered up in the front, so she won’t trip on it while walking.  “Jolie, what’s wrong?” Rolling her eyes, she practically grunts. “Nothing.” She tries to get past me, but I block her path. “Where’s your date? Why are you walking?” “I’m fine. Can you please move?” She tries to get past me again, but this time I grab her by the arms, stopping her. “Jolie don’t. Not with me. You don’t always have to be strong.” She relaxes under my hold, deflated and says, “I don’t know where he is.”  “Did he…” Now I’m burning with rage. “No! Calm down.” She jerks out of my arms and says, “He never even got close enough to try.” What? Did she want him to try?  Jolie takes a step back, letting out an exaggerated huff. “All he wanted to do was take a picture and drink. He wouldn’t even dance with me. Then he had the nerve to want us to go to a party without even enjoying the dance.” Dumbass, I know his type. Doing whatever it takes to look cool with all the guys, ignoring his date until the big party. Then it’s on, he’ll become the aggressor trying to get her alone and get what he wants without putting any effort into her needs. Jolie trying to get it all out, continues, “By the time he wanted to leave, he was drunk and started teasing about shit I never agreed to.” I fucking knew it! “Like what? What the hell was he saying?!” Jolie has the nerve to roll her eyes at me, “Nothing, I handled it.” That brings a smile to my face. I know she can handle herself; I just hate that she has to. Not wanting to show how much it bothers me, I tell her, “Good riddance then.” My choice of words doesn’t go over well though. She looks at me, ready to kick me in the balls which is what I’m sure she did to the other guy. “Really?! That’s what you have to say? Why are all you boys so stupid? All I wanted was to dance.” “You didn’t dance at all, even with your friends?” “I did, but I wanted to dance with…never mind, you wouldn’t understand.” I understand perfectly and I know how to solve it. I grab her hand, pulling her back in the direction of the school. “Hey, what are you doing? Where you taking me? Shane, stop.” “We’re going back to the school.” “Why? No! Shane, we can’t!” She’s trying to nail her feet down to the concrete, making it harder to pull her. Doesn’t matter though, I continue dragging her. “The hell we can’t. You want to dance? You’re going to dance.” Sounding frantic, she tries convincing me, “Shane, they won’t let you in. I’m fine. Please, let’s go home.” She’s right, they won’t let me in. But I can get her close enough to the hear the music. No matter what she says or how hard she tries pulling out of my grip, she is going to have that damn dance. “Shane, what do you think we’re going to do?” “We’re going to dance.” “Huh?” We finally make it to the school, and I lead us to the side of the gym where the dance is being held. Once we’re on the side, I’m pleased to see I was right. The music might be muffled but we can still hear the band playing. So, I turn and tell her, “Put on your shoes.” “This is ridiculous, Shane.” In a firm voice, making sure she knows I’m not playing, I say, “Do it.” With another exaggerated puff, she gives up and says, “Fine, but this is stupid.” She grabs my arm to help her balance while putting her heels back on and then stands straight, wiping down her dress and gives me a frumpy frustrated look.  The song playing isn’t right, it’s too fast. So, I’m standing here looking like an idiot, waiting and hoping the next song will be a slow. This will be our first dance and if it’s the last, I want to make sure I get to hold her close in my arms. Jolie’s looking around like this is the most ridiculous thing ever. She remains there though, shifting around with her hands locked in front of her, looking anywhere but at me.  There’s a pause in the music then the next song the band starts to play is slow and perfect. It’s, ‘To Make you Feel My love.’ Without warning, I grab Jolie’s hand and pull her into my arms, but she automatically stiffens. It’s not what I want. She shouldn’t be nervous. This is us.  Looking down upon her, I tell her, “Just relax.” The second her eyes look up at mine, I’m a goner. “I don’t know how to do this.” “It’s me, Jo. Only me and you.” Her eyes soften, and her mouth curls slightly as I reach for her other hand and lay it gently and securely in mine. Repositioning my other arm around the back of her lower waist, I hear a hitch in her breath. My eyes close for only a second, wanting to hear it again. Her eyes rise again and this time, lock with mine and I begin. One step forward and one step back, her smile grows, bringing me more joy than I’ve ever known. As we continue to dance slow, it becomes painful having her this close. Hearing the song and having her finally in my arms where I’ve always wanted her is more than I can take. I never should’ve allowed any other guy the chance to worm his way into her life. Jolie surprises me by laying her head on my chest as we slow to more of a sway. I wonder if she can hear the beating of my heart. Because it’s hers, it always has been.  Bending, I lay my cheek on the top of her head and move my hand up, feeling her bare skin. Continuing, I slide it up to caress her neck.  “I love this song.” she says in a whisper. “Then it’s our song.” Jolie’s head rises, bringing her eyes back to mine. “Shane?” It’s time. “There’s never been a question where you belong. I’ve been an idiot Jolie, but not anymore.” The song stops and we continue to stare into each other’s eyes. Finally, she breaks our gaze and tries to pull out of my arms. I know she’s shocked and confused by what I said. I just never expected no response. Then the one she ends up giving me, isn’t even close to anything I wanted,  “Thank you for the dance.” “Not yet.” “No, Shane! You can’t keep doing this to me. I’m tired of trying to get you to love… shit! I’m tired, okay?” She didn’t finish what she was going to say but I know exactly what it was. She’s tired of trying to get me to love her. Love was never an issue. I’ve loved her practically since the day I met her. My mother was so right when she said, “One day.” It was always there. I just kept denying it, not wanting or needing anyone in my life to love. Especially not the younger girl from across the street. But for some reason, I can’t risk losing her either. She’s getting older and I am no longer the only one seeing her for the beautiful woman she’s becoming. She’s mine and she needs to know it.  Bringing her back to me, I lay a hand on her beautiful face, taking her all in.  Jolie licks her lips and with a shaky voice asks, “Are you going to kiss me again?” “If I do, you need to understand there’s no going back. You’ll be mine, forever.” “I’m already yours, Shane.”  I’m so caught up in her eyes, seeing the truth behind them. My other hand reaches out to hold the other side of her face and my eyes dance around each of her features, then she puts me out of my misery and says,  “Kiss me.”
Written by Monique Orgeron’s eldest, most beautiful, and intelligent daughter. (My sister is going to hate this part.)
My mom happens to be the most caring, loving, and stubborn person I know, well anyone knows. She gives 100% percent of herself to everyone and has given up so much of herself for my sister and I. For twenty-one years she has poured her heart and soul into making sure we know that we are loved and that we can do anything we put our minds too, but it was about time she figured that out about herself.
Up until this year I hadn’t seen my mom do anything for only her, but this book has allowed her to travel the world through the pages of a book, make new friends, and feel the joy of doing something exciting.
There is a new light behind her eyes and it is just making me feel more joy than she can ever imagine. While she might be annoying most of the time, I am so thrilled that she is finally allowing herself to grow as a person and not spend all of her energy on her family.
It has been a long journey of self-discovery for my mom; she has gone from domestic supermom to domestic goddess throughout the process of writing.
We are so very excited and proud of you! I love you as big as the world.

AN ALL-NEW STANDALONE FROM NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING AUTHOR JULIA KENT

One hundred years ago when I was young and impulsive (okay, it was five, alright? Five years ago…) I let my boyfriend take, let’s just say… compromising pictures of me.

(Shut up. It made sense at the time).

Surprise! The sleazy back-stabbing jerk posted them on a website and, well, you can guess what happened. That’s right.

I’m a meme. A really gross one.

You’ve seen the pictures. And if you haven’t – don’t ask. And don’t look!

As face recognition software online improves, I get tagged on social media whenever anyone shares my pictures. You try getting a thousand notifications a day, all of them pictures of your tatas.

So. I’m done.

It’s time for revenge. Let him see how it feels! But how do you get embarrassingly intimate pictures of your jerkface ex who double-crossed you five years ago?

Especially when he’s a member of the U.S.House of Representatives now?

Getting sweet between the sheets with a congressman is pretty much every political roadie’s dream, right? I’m one in a crowd.

Except to this day, he swears he didn’t do it. Pursued me for months after I dumped him five years ago. Begged me to take him back.

And I almost did it. Almost. I was weak and stupid and in love a hundred years ago.

Okay. Fine. Five.

But I still have the upper hand. Second chance romance has all the emotional feels, doesn’t it?

I can’t wait to punch him in the feels.

All I need to do is sleep with him once, take some hot-and-sweaty pics of him in… delicate positions, and bring him down. That’s it. Nothing more.

Pictures first. Revenge after. And then I win.

At least, that’s how it was supposed to happen. But then I did something worse than sexting.

I fell in love with him. Again.

Parker’s grasp as we kiss is masterful, his hips pivoting until we’re in a tiny closet, the door shutting behind us, our bodies surrounded by coats. At any second, someone could walk in, find us, interrupt and embarrass us, but I don’t care as my fingers grasp his thick, hard chest. He doesn’t care as his hand slides between my thighs, my need to be touched so great that I moan into his mouth, biting his lip. He makes a sound that says he needs this, too, his erection pressing into my hip, the centering of his thickness as he nudges my legs wider with his knee making me hold my breath as he rubs up, just once, just right, just there.
“I’ve missed you,” he hisses as his mouth takes my earlobe, sucking gently, then hard, the tip of his tongue flicking and laving, my clit spasming as it imagines him doing this between my legs. My fingertips dig into his shoulders, one hand diving down the length of his abs until I cup his sac, then ride the ridge of my palm up his long, thick, engorged–
“What are we doing, Parker?” I gasp.
“Whatever we want,” he says, so steady, so sure, so unabashedly here.
“SKIP?” someone calls out from behind the door.
“PERKY?” Mallory whisper-yells, her voice breaking through as I clench, my whole body going tight, the core of me shivering with an orgasm that crashes over me as Parker’s leg, his mouth, his very presence, make me lose my everloving mind.
And all my self-control.
Every shred of it.

Synopsis

Postal carrier and amateur surfer, Samantha Diaz, lives an uncomplicated life. Well, other than helping her sister with childcare, crushing on her unavailable customer, Lauren Brennan, and catching as many waves as possible before hurricane season begins. Suffice to say, she isn’t looking for much more, but when Lauren invites her to a monthly game night at her house, Sam happily agrees. When Sam sets out on an early morning surf, the last thing she expects to do is die, but a sudden thunderstorm thrashes offshore, creating a riptide that steals Sam’s life. She awakens to a snarky woman named Margo speaking cryptic nonsense. Not only does she claim to be one of the many Grim Reapers, or Grims, in the world, Margo makes Sam an offer: she’ll bring Sam back from the dead, as long as she becomes Margo’s temporary assistant. Sam accepts but soon realizes the deal was too good to be true, and the consequences she faces may be worse than the death she dodged.

Excerpt

The Grim Assistant Jodi Hutchins © 2019 All Rights Reserved The planks of the boardwalk were hot against Samantha Diaz’s feet as she bounded up the stairs, surfboard tucked beneath her arm, water trickling over her shoulders. The calm waters and equally serene beach left her with only the early morning anglers standing out at the ocean’s edge, casting their lines along the jetty. “Same time on Friday?” her best friend, Josh Keller, asked as he ambled up the stairs after her, his bushy blond hair stuck to his face and neck. A trill from a bicycle bell filled the air, coalescing with the call of a flock of seagulls harassing a group of teens munching on breakfast. The oily aroma of freshly fried doughnuts mixed with the scent of crisp saltwater as Sam took a deep breath. She smiled broadly. “Absolutely.” Beads of seawater dripped down her dark brows, and she swept her hand across her forehead in a feeble attempt to dry it. The pair crossed the boardwalk, heading down the long ramp to the parking lot. Reaching her Jeep, Sam tossed her board in the back and grabbed a towel, drying her face and ruffling her unruly crop of black hair. People flooded the tall staircase, beach tags fastened to their large bags overflowing with colorful shovels and towels. She grabbed a dry shirt, pulling it over her head to cover her bikini top before putting her wallet in the damp pocket of her board shorts. Josh stood staring at her. “Damn, what I would do to get a tan like yours,” he mumbled sheepishly. Sam chuckled, noting the red tinge forming along his pale, freckled shoulders, and then glanced at her own tanned skin. “I don’t know, man, I’ll always be jealous of your freckles,” she joked, elbowing him in the arm. “You want to grab some breakfast?” “Sure, why not?” Sam and Josh followed the influx of people. She was determined she would get herself a fresh bagel before heading home for a shower and babysitting her nephew. Cyclists pedaled down the bicycle lane on the wood, and early morning joggers were swiftly being replaced by excited children heading to the beach or the waterpark. The tiny hole-in-the-wall bagel shop Sam frequented was set back beside one of two amusement parks on the boardwalk, and she stepped into the short line. Depending on what time she had to be in to work, Sam’s summer mornings always started the same if Josh was available. She didn’t surf without him by her side unless there were lifeguards present. The last thing she wanted was to get caught in a riptide and end up miles offshore. The two moved into the queue of people, and Josh turned to her. “How’s it going with Katie?” Sam’s stomach sank at the mention of her older sister, and she shrugged. “I don’t know. The divorce is official, but now it’s all parenting plan crap and custody issues. She’s stressed out.” Josh gave her a sympathetic grimace, causing her to wonder if he regretted asking her the question. “Yikes.” “Yeah. They had a meeting with her ex’s lawyer, and I don’t know how it went yet.” “Hey, Sam,” a voice called from behind her. Sam whipped around as her friend, Lauren Brennan, stepped into the line where Sam was already standing in wait. Lauren’s long chestnut hair hung over her shoulders, her wide smile reaching her vibrant green eyes. “Lauren.” Sam’s tone came out a lot more breathless than she intended. Josh must’ve noted the change in her demeanor, so he nudged her in the back with his elbow. “They have the best pork roll egg and cheese sandwiches,” Lauren said, curling her lips upward, a delicate dimple surfacing as she smiled. Sam nearly sighed with longing, her heart rate quickening, and she swallowed back her feelings. The blue sundress Lauren wore hugged her body, the color accentuating her lovely summer tan. She’s off limits. “They sure do. Order anything good lately?” Sam agreed. Nodding enthusiastically, Lauren said, “Actually, I did! I ordered this new lesson kit online and a few other things for the classroom.” Sam had been delivering Lauren’s mail since the science teacher moved to Ocean City from New Brunswick two years prior. “And a few new books. Speaking of books, how’d you like the one you borrowed?” “I absolutely loved it. Is it just me or is my taste in books rubbing off on you?” Sam said. Josh sighed indignantly. Sam held in a retort while she waited for Lauren to reply. Lauren blushed, and the sight had Sam nearly swooning. “I have to say your taste has rubbed off on me. My true love will always be gritty literary fiction, but you’ve got me hooked on those dark fantasies now.” “Hey, I forgot about that thing I have to do,” Josh interjected. When Sam gave him a puzzled smile, he continued, “You know, the thing? I’ll see you Friday.” “Oh, all right. Aren’t you going to get breakfast?” Sam asked. He shook his head and waggled his eyebrows, head jerking toward Lauren. His gesture wasn’t as discreet as Sam preferred, but she didn’t believe Lauren noticed. She knew he was leaving because of her interaction with Lauren. Before she could say more, Josh moved out of the line and hurried toward the ramp leading to the sidewalk. She moved forward in line, ordering her food and stepping aside while Lauren ordered hers. While they waited, Sam leaned against the railing. “I’ve got a new one I know you’d love,” she said. “A dark fantasy? You’d better bring it by the next time you work. I ordered a bunch of stuff, so I should be seeing you sometime next week,” Lauren added, pulling her purse strap over her shoulder. “Okay, I will. Maybe Boo will let me pet her this time,” Sam chuckled, referring to Lauren’s skittish cat. In the last two years, the cat only let Sam touch her four or five times. “Don’t take it personally because she doesn’t even let Bethany pet her.” Yep, there was the pesky reminder of her unavailability. Sam laughed regardless of her feelings toward Lauren’s girlfriend. It wasn’t as though she didn’t like her for the sole reason of being with Lauren; Bethany and Sam had known each other in high school and the memories were anything but fond. “Boo’s such a cutie. Maybe I’ll start bringing some cat treats again,” Sam offered. The young man behind the counter caught Sam’s attention and handed her the pork roll she ordered. “Thanks.” She grinned at Lauren, continuing their conversation. “That’s how I got Boo to let me close at first.” “School starts on Wednesday, but you should come by one night and have a drink with us, maybe play some cards. I always try to plan a game night once a month, especially when school is back in session.” Lauren took her food from the man, then faced Sam as they moved out of the way of other customers. “I’d love to,” Sam said honestly. Sam enjoyed Lauren’s friendship, despite having to tolerate Bethany in small doses. She and Bethany may have had their differences, but they were adults now. “What about, say, next Saturday night? I’m heading to Newark this weekend for a family barbeque, but I’ll be home Tuesday.” “Yeah, sounds perfect.” They stood staring at each other for longer than etiquette warranted, triggering Sam to wonder if Lauren felt the same attraction as she did. She hastily dispelled the fleeting thought and smiled. She’s simply a friend and can’t be more. “Well, I’ll let you get on with your day. I’ve got babysitting duty with my nephew, anyway.” “I’ll see you later this week, I’m sure. Don’t forget the book,” Lauren said. She turned, heading down the boardwalk. Lauren left, the sway of her hips causing her skirt to swish back and forth with each step, and once Lauren disappeared in the flowing crowd, Sam headed to her Jeep. The drive back to her house was quick and she was fortunate she missed the tourist traffic. Although Ocean City, New Jersey, was a busy tourist spot during the summer, Sam couldn’t see herself living anywhere else. The tiny seaside town was home to her and her sister, the beach and the community far too important to leave behind and live in a larger city. She parked her car on the side of the road, finding a spot relatively close to her sister’s little condo, and she ambled up the stairs, leaving her surfboard in the back of her Jeep. The steps leading to the porch creaked beneath her feet, the white paint peeling off the railing and the stucco face of the home. The three-bedroom condo was large enough for her sister and nephew to live in comfortably. Sam had been staying with Katie for a few weeks at a time to help with her nephew and to covertly keep an eye out for her sister’s mental health. The divorce was taking its toll on Katie, but Sam knew her sister would never ask for help. “I’m glad you’re here. I’ve got to run and get gas before I head over to work,” Katie said as she bustled around the living room, grabbing a laundry basket full of clothing from the couch and tossing it on the kitchen counter. Already clad in blue scrubs, her black hair pulled back in a tight ponytail, Sam figured Katie must’ve been anxiously waiting for her to get there. “Sorry. I stopped to grab some breakfast. Is the little man awake yet?” Without glancing up from her task, Katie shook her head. Sam stopped, placing her keys on the island in the kitchen leading off the living room, and she really took in her sister’s appearance: red-rimmed eyes, wrinkled scrubs, head lowered. “Katie.” Her sister finally met her gaze. “How’d the hearing go yesterday?” Katie drew a breath and straightened. “Like crap. I don’t think we’re ever going to work out a parenting plan.” “He didn’t agree to your terms?” Katie scoffed, and her shoulders visibly slumped. “No. His lawyer told us he wanted more time on different days. Evidently, his schedule doesn’t work with what I offered,” she said, shaking her head and touching her fingers to her forehead. “At this rate, it’s going to go on into the new year.” “He’s lucky you don’t fight for full custody, the fucking asshat.” Sam loathed her ex-brother-in-law for how he treated his sister and wasn’t shy about speaking her feelings toward him now the divorce was official. Her sister shot her a reproachful glance before she headed to the refrigerator. Katie’s voice was low when she said, “Just because he and I didn’t work out doesn’t mean he’s a bad father. Ben has every right to know him and I don’t want to take his father away from him because John was unfaithful.” She threw a yogurt into her purse along with a package of granola before grabbing her keys from the counter. “I’ll see you tonight,” she said as she stepped out the front door. Sam lounged on the couch, kicking her feet up on the coffee table as she closed her eyes. Her muscles were sore from surfing, and all she wanted was to rest her head before her nephew woke. “Auntie Sam, Mama gone?” a little voice cut off her thoughts. Her five-year-old nephew came wandering down the hall, his little stuffed animal pig tucked under his arm, his free hand rubbing his face. “Yeah, Mama had to go off to work. Do you want some breakfast?” Sam asked. Ben eagerly bobbed his head.

Regret at Roosevelt Ranch by Elise Faber

This time there won’t be any regrets… Regret at Roosevelt Ranch by Elise Faber is now available!
Universal — mybook.to/RaRR
Henry Miller was nobody. Not any longer. He used to be an up and coming chef in New York City, training under one of the most famous celebrity chefs in the world. But that had been five years before. When he’d been itching to leave the small-town life of Darlington, Utah behind and become rich and powerful and famous. He’d been on his way too—had the fancy apartment, the great job, the gorgeous fiancé. Isabella had been generous, sweet, and beautiful inside and out . . . or so he’d thought. Because the moment he’d taken leave from his job to come home and care for his father, the moment he’d slipped free of the outer edges of celebrity by returning to Utah to help his mother run the diner, Bella had dumped him. Without a word and definitely without any explanation, Bella had disappeared from his life faster than a Michelin star from a restaurant that had lost his shine. And he was fine with that. He’d moved on, rebuilt a life in Darlington and found, if not fulfillment, then at least peace in cooking at his father’s old diner. Until Isabella showed up in town with a new fiancé in tow. Until Bella wanted him to cook the food for her wedding at Roosevelt Ranch. Until . . . he found out why she had left. Suddenly, the peaceful but boring life Henry had built for himself was chaotic and frightening and it potentially, maybe . . . possibly might be punctuated with a happy ending.
