Sugarcoated by Erin Nicholas

Sugarcoated - BT Banner.jpg

“You can always count on Erin Nicholas for fun, sexy contemporary romance.”―Melissa Foster, New York Times bestselling author

Sugarcoated, an all-new sexy and laugh-out-loud standalone romance from New York Times bestselling author Erin Nicholas, is out now!

Sugarcoated300

She’s his best friend’s little sister. He’s known her all his life. He’s practically part of the family. There is nothing either of them could do to surprise the other at this point.

Then she showed up in his bedroom in lingerie and asked him to take her V-card.

Now, that was a surprise.

Aiden is pretty sure Zoe was equally surprised when he told her no.

To say that he didn’t handle it well would be a massive understatement. Almost as massive as the amount of work he’s going to have to do now to convince her that he wants her. Forever.

Right after he tells her that he’s bought the company that’s her bakery’s biggest competitor.

Maybe if he tells her he’s in love with her first, that will help sugarcoat the whole we’re-rivals-in-business-now thing.

So, first “I’m in love with you”, then “take off your clothes”, then “I’m now your business adversary”.

Piece of cake.

Excerpt:

“What?” she asked, her eyes wide and blinking. “You thought I’d just be waiting around for you to come back?”

“Yes!” It was the wrong answer, he knew, even as he said it. But it was true.

“You are so full of yourself!” She frowned. “You actually thought I’d be waiting around, pining for you, didn’t you?”

Maybe not crying herself to sleep every night, but thinking about him? Yeah. Fuck. He hadn’t been able to get her out of his mind for more than a few hours at a time. “It’s only been five months,” he said. “Is it really crazy for me to think that you didn’t get your virginity ‘taken care of’ yet?”

“Exactly! It’s been five months!” she said.

“You went twenty-five years without sex, and you couldn’t go five more months?”

“Well, it’s not like you gave me an IOU!” she shot back. “I had no idea when you were coming back, and I assumed your answer would have still been no. So yeah, I moved on, Aiden.”

“Who was it?” he asked, noting his tone was suddenly a little ominous.

“I’m not telling you that.” She looked at him like he was insane.

“Tell me, Zoe.”

No.”

“I’ll find out. This is Appleby. I’ll probably know by the end of tonight.”

“You won’t.” She lifted her chin. “I can promise you that.”

“Bet I do.”

“Why do you really even care? Now you don’t have to do it.”

“Because you’re mine.”

Yeah, shit. See, he’d known that was the wrong answer to give. Guys didn’t go around claiming women like they were property or possessions. He knew that. He’d never had that urge before. This woman was strong and independent and confident and certainly didn’t need him for anything.

But the idea of another man touching her, seeing her naked, making her feel the ultimate pleasure, made his blood boil.

She stood, just staring at him. Then she picked up a cake ball. And threw it at him. It hit him square in the red tie and bounced back onto the table.

“You’re a jerk.”

Yeah, maybe he was. A nice guy would probably just take all her explanations and excuses about why they shouldn’t be together and admit his idea was crazy.

He didn’t say anything. He didn’t wipe away the sticky crumbs the cake ball left on his tie. He picked up the ball and rounded the worktable.

Her eyes widened, and she backed up as he came closer. He kept going. Until her back was against the front of the fridge.

He didn’t say a word as he stopped right in front of her, lifted his hand to cup her face, and leaned in.

Aiden ignored her hands on his chest. She wasn’t pushing. She wasn’t pulling him closer either, but she wasn’t trying to get away. She wasn’t lifting her knee to his balls. She wasn’t saying no.

He stared into her eyes for a long moment. She could stop this. He knew she knew that.

She didn’t.

So he kissed her.

Between Dawn and Dusk AND The Fae King's Curse by Jamie Schlosser

Titles: Between Dawn and Dusk: A Prequel AND The Fae King’s Curse
Series: Between Dawn and Dusk
Author: Jamie Schlosser
Genre: Fantasy Romance
Release Date: April 3, 2020 AND April 17, 2020 Cover Design: Book Cover Kingdom
I’ve got a problem. A big muscly problem, with icy blue eyes, long dark hair, and tight leather pants.
Keryth is the Night Realm king. My father’s greatest enemy. And my fated mate.
It isn’t easy being a fae princess of the Day Realm. Our kingdom has suffered hardships, but if my father won’t approve of the mating bond with Keryth, they’ll be putting another body in a casket—mine. If we’re kept apart, we’ll both die. Not to be dramatic or anything. Destiny just doesn’t like to be denied, and our sanity will wither away if we don’t give in.
Too bad my father doesn’t care about that. His solution is to lock me away forever.
When Keryth comes to rescue me, I know we can take on anything as long as we’re together. But old rivalries die hard, and the past sins of our families come back to haunt us, affecting our future and the ones we love the most.
When I pulled Kirian from the icy waters of the creek behind my house, we were just twelve years old. As he looked in my direction with unseeing lavender eyes, I quickly realized our age was just about the only thing we had in common. He spoke with an accent, he had pointy ears, and he was so beautiful it made my heart ache. Oh, and he claimed to be a fae prince cursed by witches who stole his sight.
I thought he was crazy from hypothermia. Turns out, he wasn’t, and for some reason he keeps coming back. But a day in my world is a year in his. Every time I see him, he’s older. Wiser. Hotter.
Over the past six years, I’ve tried not to fall in love with him because the terms of the curse are clear: If he doesn’t wait for his fated mate in all ways, including an innocent (or not-so-innocent) kiss, he’ll be blind forever.
So when Kirian kisses me and pulls me through the portal to his realm, I make it my mission to do some damage control. It’d be a whole lot easier if he wasn’t determined to marry me… And if someone wasn’t trying to murder me every step of the way.
Jamie Schlosser writes steamy new adult romance and romantic comedy. When she isn’t creating perfect book boyfriends, she’s a stay-at-home mom to her two wonderful kids. She believes reading is a great escape, otters are the best animal, and nothing is more satisfying than a happily-ever-after ending.

How easily can an open heart unlock the door to happily-ever-after?

When Miss Quinn Cooper arrives in Emerson Pass, Colorado, her entire life is packed into one small suitcase. Her widowed mother and baby sister are depending upon her for their survival back home in Boston. And the self-appointed mayor of the rugged mountain community is counting on Miss Cooper to prove herself a fitful teacher for the young and old alike.

Lord Alexander Barnes is determined to bring a bit of English civility to the wild terrain of Emerson Pass. Using his own resources, the widower and father of five builds a schoolhouse and recruits a young teacher from the east to provide an education for both the adults and the children in his rapidly growing mining town. But when the lovely, and much younger than anticipated, Miss Cooper arrives in town, Lord Barnes finds himself providing more than just employment when the boarding house proves to be an unsafe accommodation for the school mistress.

As Miss Cooper takes a room in the Barnes’ home, the five Barnes children are delighted. They are sure Miss Cooper is the perfect woman for their lonely father. But when a friend of the Englishman turns up dead, the hope for progress in the untamed town seems immediately lost. Can Miss Cooper and Lord Barnes bring change to the closed-minded locals? And will their endeavor open their hearts to something more?

The first installment of USA Today bestselling author Tess Thompson’s historical romance series brings a touch of whimsy and an extra dash of mystery to Edwardian romance. Readers will fall in love with the courageous Miss Cooper and swoon for the magnanimous English Lord as they struggle to save their exciting new world at the turn of the 20th Century.

DARE YOU NOT TO SWOON FOR THESE TWO!

He lifted my chin and looked into my eyes. “Is it only the children you care for or is there room in your heart for me?”

My stomach was filled with sparrows, fluttering their wings. I plucked at the neck of my blouse; sure I was dreaming. “I feel a great many things. But you and I both know that’s all it can be between us.”

“Why?”

“Because you’re a lord and I’m a school mistress.”

“I don’t care anything about titles or circumstances. You’re beautiful and good and full of fire. How could I not fall in love with you?”

“It seems to me, Lord Barnes, that this wild country has made you wild.”

“The country hasn’t made me wild. I was born this way.” The corners of his mouth lifted into a brief smile. “This place is like me, wild and free. I listen to my own instincts, not those deemed by a society I don’t even believe in.”

He brushed his thumb across my jawline. I could hardly breathe. What would it feel like if that mouth pressed against mine?

“Do you know what my instincts are telling me to do right now?” he asked.

I shook my head as the muscles in my thighs tightened.

“They’re telling me to kiss you.”

My stomach did a full turn this time and my legs trembled. I couldn’t look away, drawn as I was to him as if an invisible force cleaved us together. I was an innocent when it came to men, but I knew the look of hunger when I saw it. This was not the appetite of an empty stomach but rather a craving only a man and woman could feel for each other. One in which there was only one single remedy. This was a tortuous beast of longing and desire.

“Have you ever been kissed, Miss Cooper?”

I nodded, dizzy. “Once.” And then he’d married my best friend and broken my heart.

“What happened to this fool who kissed you?”

“He married my friend the very next week.” Even after two years, my body remembered the shock when I’d heard the news. In an instant, I remembered the way a vast emptiness had crashed through me, leaving me in a tunnel of black in which there was no return.

“Why would he do such a thing?” Lord Barnes asked, his voice incredulous now.

“For the same reason you would,” I said. “He married someone with money. Someone from an important family.”

“I can marry whomever I please,” Lord Barnes eyes flashed with arrogance but also rebellion. “I have no one to answer to but God and my children. I’ll marry for love with no regard for anything else. What about you, Miss Cooper? Would you marry for love or money?”

“Love. Always love,” I said. “Even though I have only love to offer in return.”

“And what would make you love a man?” he asked. “If not money?”

“Kindness. Compassion. A curious mind.”

“What about a man with children?”

“I suppose it would depend on the children,” I said.

“This is a remote part of the country. Could you live here and be happy?”

“That would depend on the man.”

He smiled and ran the back of his finger over my cheek. “One worthy of your heart?”

“That’s right.”

“Would you allow me the chance to prove my worth?” he asked.

“How does one go about such a thing?” I asked.

“It starts with accepting that I care nothing about convention. I want you to be my wife.”

“Wife?” I gaped at him. Had I heard him correctly or had the lack of sleep rendered me delirious?

“Yes, Miss Cooper. I want you to be my wife and the mother to my children. If you’re willing, I’d like permission to court you. Will you deny me and break my heart?”

BLURB:

Sometimes all a lion shifter wants is a snuggly bunny to cuddle. And Kasim has been stalking his very kissable prey with the patience of a true hunter. But as the perfect moment to pounce arrives, life throws some obstacles in Kasim’s path and his hopes for something more with a certain some-bunny are dashed quite possibly forever.

The last of her siblings to find a partner, bunny shifter Bailey Bunson has been waiting for her fated mate. But when her dream of predestined love is ripped from her grasp, Bailey fears she’ll never know her own happily-ever-after. That is, until she realizes the unassuming lion shifter who’s been by her side might not be her fated mate, but is everything she’s ever wanted. Will it be too late for Bailey and Kasim?

KASIM

For weeks, he’d been sidestepping actually making love to her, even though she’d indicated she was more than ready. He wanted it to be special, memorable—unforgettable.

As if I am forgettable. His lion sniffed, tossing his mane with derision. Confidence was one thing his animal side didn’t lack.

“You look amazing,” Bailey said, stepping back from Rana.

“So, do you,” Rana replied.

They both did, but Kasim was obviously far more interested in what Bailey was wearing. The lacy purple dress hugged her curves and had a very high slit up the side of her left leg that made Kasim want to get on his knees and go exploring.

They switched sides, so Bailey could hug her brother, and Kasim dropped a kiss on Rana’s cheek. He was glad to see her so happy—she deserved it.

As Brice and Rana moved away to circulate among their guests, Bailey’s hand dropped down to squeeze Kasim’s butt, and his cock jerked in interest. Raising his eyebrows, he looked down at her.

“What?” she asked, summoning up an amazingly innocent expression, especially considering she hadn’t moved her hand. “Your suit jacket is long enough, no one can see what I’m doing.”

I know what you’re doing,” he admonished. Not that he minded exactly, but it was hard enough trying to keep his urges under control—especially with the plans he had for tonight—but they couldn’t leave the reception yet. It would be rude to sneak out this early.

Giving him one more squeeze, Bailey stepped forward and grabbed his hand instead. “Come on, I want some ranch!”

Chuckling again, Kasim followed her to the ranch fountain.

She was loading up her plate when Fred, one of his pack members, came up with a question. Kasim was so busy chatting with him, he almost didn’t notice when Bailey stepped away—and not toward the food—toward another man. Kasim glanced at her and frowned when she took another step away from him. He couldn’t see her face.

“Bailey?”

Another step and Bailey reached out, grabbing the man by the shoulder. Kasim froze. She wouldn’t ignore him like this. Wouldn’t grab another man, a stranger, unless…

“You’re my mate!” Her voice was high and shocked and tinged with joy, and it cut through Kasim’s chest like a knife. Stabbing him couldn’t have been more painful.

He stepped back, rocked by the pain. In his head, his lion went wild, clawing to be let out, to get to their bunny, to sink his teeth into her, and claim her before this usurper could steal her.

But he wouldn’t be stealing her, would he? He was Bailey’s mate. The happy ending she’d insisted she wanted from the moment Kasim had met her. Kasim had been the one to tell her how unlikely it was—how unrealistic.

He’d thought she was just immature, ignorant—childishly hopeful for a fairy tale.

She’d been right all along.

Silently, Kasim stepped back and melted into the crowd, moving as quickly as he could. If he stayed there for one second longer, while Bailey and her newfound mate stared at each other, he wasn’t sure he’d be able to control his lion.

His lion roared with pain as he fled.

I go to the fridge in search of water. Just as I grab one of the bottles, the sound of someone behind me catches me off guard. “You lost?” He asks, and goose bumps raise across my skin as I recognize that voice. I straighten up and turn around, coming face to face with the guy who has plagued my mind for the last couple weeks. Knox Vaughn. “Keg is over there.” His head nods toward the crowd in the corner of the room. “Oh, n-no I’m okay,” I mutter. “I just wanted water.” He snorts and stares at the bottle in my hand like it’s diseased. “Who comes to a party and drinks water?” “Me, I guess.” His gaze moves down to my cleavage and he leans back against the counter as he bites his lip. “Are you sure you don’t want me to get you a beer?” I shake my head faster than necessary. “My dad said beer makes you fat.” He raises his brows before his expression changes to a smirk that has my heart skipping beats. Grabbing the bottom of his shirt, he lifts it up to reveal perfectly toned abs. “Your daddy lied.” For the first time in my life, the thoughts that run through my head are anything but innocent. The only thing I can think to do is get the hell out of here and as far away from him as possible. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know what a guy like him looks for at these kinds of parties, and I’m nothing like the girls here.

The Vanity of Roses by Lily White

Title: The Vanity of Roses
Author: Lily White
Genre: Romantic Suspense
Release Date: March 25, 2020
Callan Rose.
That hadn’t always been his name.
When we were children, he was nothing more than a servant boy in my family.
He was an amusement to me.
A nobody.
A weak soul who refused to fight back.
It was so easy to take advantage.
But then my father died, and I was stolen. The family moved on without me. Until I was penniless with no place to go.
I returned to the Rose Estate not knowing Callan was the head of it.
He’d honed his body and temper in the underground fighting ring. The scars only made him more beautiful.
Now I’m trapped by a seductively dark man who has nothing but vengeance running through his veins.
I’d always wanted him to fight back, but you know what they say:
Be careful what you wish for.
“Me,” she laughed, “jealous of you?”

Her gaze dragged down me with disgust I hadn’t seen since we were kids. “You don’t have to worry about that, Callan, you don’t have a single thing that I want. You’re nothing more than a pathetic excuse for a man, a Rose in name and nothing-“

I was across the room and on her before she could finish the thought, a surprised shriek muffled behind the hand I clapped over her mouth while my boots ground the broken glass into the floor.

Lifting her with just my palm against her chin, I grinned when her bare feet kicked, her heels thudding against the wall.

Mouth to her ear, my words came out on a dark hiss.

“Keep talking, brat. I haven’t seen you like this since we were kids. What were you going to say to me? That I’m worthless? That you’re somehow better than me?”

The scruff of my jaw scratched her skin, my free hand sliding up the inside of her thigh.

“Please say those things,” I crooned, my voice so deep I knew it vibrated against her bones. “I’ve always wanted to take this pretty little body while you’re abusing me with your words.”

Releasing her chin, I caught her and spun her toward the wall, my body trapping hers, my hand flipping her skirt above her waist.

My mouth was to her ear again, my heart thumping in time with the angry beat of her breath.

“And what’s messed up is you like this. I should have done it a long time ago.”

The entire apartment was dark—silent. Aside from the buzzing of the fridge in the kitchen, there was no sound. I pocketed the key and felt against the wall for the light switch, flipping it on and shutting the door quietly behind me. The living room lit up, blinding me momentarily. I looked around, seeking for some sign of Carter, but the house was still. Just as expected, the place was spotless. Over the suede chaise sofa laid a hand-woven quilt, the quilt I’d made him during my long-ass, torture-filled summer at camp without him. The coffee table in front of the couch was tidy, only flaunting a few stacked magazines and an Aloe Vera plant. The apartment was clean—cleaner than my place had ever been, which was typical for the two of us.

“I’m coming up,” I hollered at the stairs. “I hope you’re decent.” I waited for some reaction; some grumbled reply or sleepy bitch-out. Instead, there was silence—a silence that chilled my core. “I know you’re here. I saw your car by the curb.” Trying to ward off the dizzying effects of my hangover, I climbed the stairs one at a time, giving Carter enough time to fully wake before I reamed his ass for hanging up on me. “It’s your fault I’m not sleeping right now,” I said. My head pounded, my vision fuzzy as exhaustion overcame me. I stopped in front of his door and let my hand rest on the handle, pushing it open. “I may very well kick you out of bed and—”

There was silence, an eerie, terrifying silence that seemed to freeze time. In that silence, someone started to scream. For a fleeting second, I wanted to cover my ears and yell at them to shut up: grow up, be quiet, get the fuck out. Shut the fuck up.

Then I realized it was me.

I spotted the bottle of pills first, a neon orange prescription bottle lying open on the floor. The lid was off, and it was empty. Next to the empty bottle of pills, he was there.

With a sob, I dropped to my knees in front of him. I could hear my breath coming in quick, short gasps of panic as I reached out and allowed my trembling hand to feel for any sign of life. His lips were tinged blue, his eyes partially open and staring at the ceiling above us. His skin, at one time running so much warmer than everybody else’s, was cooling down. Chilled and waxy.

“No,” I screamed the word until it hurt my throat. “I don’t understand what’s happening. I don’t understand what’s happening. Carter? Carter. Tell me—tell me what’s happening. Carter!” I collapsed onto him, letting my head rest on his chest. “I need to call 911,” I murmured. Jumbled thoughts raced through my mind, none of them making a bit of sense. I pulled my cell phone from my pocket and dialed the emergency line. My hand shook so severely I dropped the phone twice.

“It’s okay,” I said to Carter. “They’ll be able to help you.”

“911, where’s your emergency?” asked the operator on the other end of the line. I touched my face, only just noticing the tears rolling down my cheeks.

“My friend,” I said. I reached down and squeezed Carter’s hand. “He’s-h-e needs help. I need an ambulance. We’re in the Kirkwood Meadows apartments, number sixty-one.”

“I’m sending Paramedics now,” the dispatcher said. “Ma’am, can you tell me what happened?”

“No. I don’t know. I just-I need someone to come and help him. I need someone to come and save his life and I—” The cell phone dropped from my fingers. Somewhere in the back of my mind, I heard it clatter to the floor, bouncing against the hardwood floor of his bedroom. I reached for him again, resting my hand on his, our temperatures clashing. I could feel my face and fingers start to tingle and numb, threatening a panic attack.

“It’s going to be okay,” I said, lacing my fingers together over his chest. I began compressions, holding my breath, as the seconds ticked by in slow motion. I paused for a moment and checked for a pulse. There was nothing. “I love you, Carter,” I whispered, pumping his chest again. “I’m so sorry, just stay with me. They–they’ll help you.” Then, in the silence of the house, amongst the midst of death, I lost it.
