Built to Fall by Julia Wolf

Title: Built to Fall
Author: Julia Wolf
Genre: Standalone Rock Star/Age Gap Romance
Release Date: January 28, 2021

BLURB

“You’re perfect for this job, Claire. He won’t want to sleep with you. You’re not his…type.”

Dominic Cantrell has been famous almost as long as I’ve been alive, but he remains a dark, volatile mystery.

I know why I was hired to handle Dominic’s PR while he’s on tour. It’s not because of my experience—I have next to none. It’s because I’m safe. Plain, quiet, shy, with more-than-ample curves, I won’t distract him.

What I didn’t count on was Dominic distracting me instead. I shouldn’t be so drawn to him. He’s too old for me, too closed-off, and definitely too angry, but I’ve been a good girl for far too long.

Why can’t I be just a little bit bad, especially when my rock star fantasy is so willing to corrupt me?

Our fling has an expiration date at the end of the tour. No strings, no feelings, no heartbreak when it’s over.

I tell myself I won’t fall. But I don’t know if I’m built that way.

An Everyday Heroes World Novel

BLURB

To say I survived the unimaginable isn’t exactly accurate, because I didn’t.
I’m alive.
But I’m not living.
I’m existing, clawing my way from one day to the next.
My only saving grace is my job as a police officer, and it’s during a routine traffic stop one evening when the threads of my isolated existence begin to unravel.
One glance from Quinn Harris and I feel like I’m dreaming. And the more chance brings us together, the more I’m powerless to stop the uneasy feeling that I’m losing control.
She stirs up thoughts of something new and unexpected—of a life I’m no longer prepared to handle.

***

I’m done with men.
I trusted my ex and he broke my heart.
But life doesn’t seem to want to follow my plan, which is evident the moment I meet Nolan Bennett.
He doesn’t score high on first impressions. In fact, he is downright rude.
But as we continue to run into each other, I start to see another side of him, and I can’t deny I’m intrigued.
Against my better judgment, I give him a chance.
But again, life will step in and take over.
Only this time I don’t think either of us will survive. Not with an unknown link between us too painful to overcome.

EXCERPT

Beautiful weather used to enhance my good moods in the past, but seeing the sun shining brightly, high in the sky, and feeling the warm breeze on the side of my face as I drove only seemed to aggravate me. On the days when it was dark and gloomy, I felt harmony because my surroundings were reflective of the turmoil I constantly battled. I was more at peace when the world appeared desolate.
When I finally arrived at the address, I took a moment before I exited my cruiser, calling on whatever hierarchy there was in the universe to give me the strength to complete my task. It’d gotten easier over time to deal with the public, but I still struggled with the interactions, although no one ever detected such a thing. Most just categorized me as an asshole, and I was fine with the assessment.
Opening my door, I slid out of my seat and adjusted my duty belt as I rounded the back of the vehicle, flipping on my shades to shield my eyes from the blinding sun. Up ahead, I saw a woman standing in the archway of the complex. If she was aware of my presence, she didn’t show it, so I took the time to assess her, as I did everyone I came into contact with.
She was thin, approximately five-six with long dark hair. She wore a black skirt, white top, and black heels. On her left wrist was a silver banded watch. She carried what looked to be a laptop case on her right shoulder. The closer I approached, the more I was able to see more of her, but it wasn’t until she turned to face me that I realized I’d seen her before.
The prior evening, in fact.
Standing near her now, in the light of day, in a drastically different scenario, a pang of remorse washed over me. To say feeling bad was an oddity for me was an understatement. I hardly ever gave people a second thought, let alone harbored any sense of guilt about my interactions.
There was a chance she wouldn’t recognize me as the same officer who pulled her over last night. If that was the case, then I would remain as quiet as possible and get this over with quickly so I could get back to dealing with the rest of my day.
Any hope I had that she viewed me as a complete stranger died when her eyes narrowed into slits and the corners of her mouth turned down.
“This is just great,” she mumbled loud enough for me to hear, and I didn’t know if it was her tone or the blatant look of disgust on her face from having to stand near me, but a part of me that had been dormant for as long as I could remember flicked back to life during the unpleasant interaction.
The moment was fleeting, but I held on to it for as long as possible before it faded into obscurity. The snarkiness in her voice pricked my senses. Everyone else I encountered either left me alone completely or engaged me briefly, their tones restrained and cautious, most likely because of my body language: that and the constant scowl on my face.
But the woman standing ten feet from me piqued my curiosity, all while she treated me with an iota of disdain.
Now, if she’d only stop glaring at me, I could attempt to make amends for last night.

A lonely social worker.
A biker behind bars.
Can their red-hot passion set them free?

What if your first love was your one true love? Eight years ago, Puck broke Ava’s heart. She picked up the pieces, patched them together, and kept going. Yet she never forgot him. When Puck sauntered through her office door at work, she was shocked to find a brawny, tatted-up biker dressed in an orange jumpsuit with the word INMATE stamped on the back.

What if you rediscovered the passion you carelessly threw away in your youth? For Puck, the only good thing about his trip to the jailhouse social worker’s office was finding Ava again. All grown up, she looked luscious, and he bet she tasted even better.

Breaking up seemed like the right thing to do at the time, but no other woman could replace Ava. Fate brought them together again and Puck wouldn’t make the same mistake twice. Ava was his property and he’d bring her to heel—no matter what it took. If that included blackmail, so be it. A biker never won by playing fair.

But what happens in jail doesn’t always stay in jail, and dark forces conspire to divert destiny and tear these lovers apart. Will their love survive a second trial?

About Monique

Growing up in New York City, I used to walk the hot pavements in the melting heat of the long summers, and dream. Uptown to downtown, eastside to the westside, and underground to catch a subway racing out into the boroughs.

During my wanderings, my magic pencil spun out fantasies full of romance, with first meetings, heartbreaks, and reunions. Sometimes my boy crush (unrequited, of course) starred as the hero.

I grew up, and after a stint in art school, became a lawyer ‘cuz a woman’s got to make a living. I came from parents who fled to France as refugees, and as an attorney, I dedicated my work to helping survivors of trauma and persecution.

I believe in them. In their grit, in their determination to hold on, to pull through and, somehow, someway, to keep themselves intact, body and soul.
Perhaps that is why I am drawn to writing stories of men and women who live through heart-rending pain, desperate yearnings and, ultimately, reach a place of redemption.

For a long time, I fought the urge to veer off the expected, safe path until I couldn’t go on unless I took a chance and made a change. I began to write, stopped, and began again. Finally, I gave in and here I am.

Come join me on my journey…

Secrets That We Keep by Linda Kage

Secrets That We Keep
Linda Kage
Publication date: January 28th 2021
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance

Gracen Lowe has a new life theory:
What you don’t know can’t hurt you.

Which is exactly why he decides not to tell his twin sister, Bella, that he’s accidentally falling for the woman she hates most, the very woman who allegedly cheated with Bella’s last boyfriend and broke them apart.

Bella might be his best friend and ultimate confidante, but she’d legit cut off his favorite body part if she knew which woman he’d been craving. So even if his theory’s totally whack, staying quiet will definitely keep him safer.

Except he feels so guilty about it all.

Meanwhile, Bella’s heating up the sheets with one of Gracen’s best friends, and she can’t seem to reveal that little detail to her brother either, due to—you know—reasons.

When the truth is exposed, all bets are off. Shattered secrets will either set everyone free or wreck their relationships forever.

EXCERPT:

Pointing, I growled, “You…” and I stepped into her house, slamming the door behind me. “Liar.”

Eyebrows lifting, she set her hands on her hips and glared back. “Excuse me?”

“You heard me,” I charged. “I called you a liar.”

“I –”

“You said you wouldn’t freak out and start avoiding me. Well, where were you tonight?”

“I didn’t feel like—”

“Bullahit!”

“Oh my God. Will you stop interrupting me.”

“Sure. When you stop avoiding me.”

“I’m not—” This time, she cut herself off to glance skyward for assistance as she mumbled curses about me. Once she was calmer, she looked me in the eye. “I’m not avoiding you. The reason I didn’t go tonight had nothing to do with you whatsoever.”

I stepped closer to her, my eyes flaring. “Oh yeah? Prove it.”

She gulped unsteadily—totally freaked out by my proximity—and then she jerked a step back.

I think that broke something inside me. She should never be too scared of getting close to me. It felt like the beginning of the end. I was going to lose her.

But once she had her space, she shot fire at me with her eyes, totally not intimidated at all. “Prove what?” she cried with a disbelieving snort. “That I didn’t go tonight because of—”

“Prove that you aren’t avoiding me,” I clarified.

She gurgled out an incredulous laugh. “How the hell does someone prove something like that?”

I shrugged. “Not my problem. Just get it done. Right now.”

Her eyes widened. “Right—”
“Now. Yes.”

“Right now?” she repeated, blinking at me as if I’d lost my mind.

I put my hand to my ear. “Is there an echo in here?” Then I glanced at the face of my watch. “Time’s ticking, baby doll.”

“Oh my God,” she exploded. She gave another dubious laugh. I couldn’t tell if she was getting a kick out of my stubbornness or if she was seriously annoyed by it. “You are such a pain in the ass.”

“Yeah,” I countered. “A pain in the ass that you’re avoiding.”

Her eyes narrowed. “This is getting ridiculous.” Darting her gaze around the room, probably looking for something heavy to hit me with, she groused, “I can’t believe you’re really making me do this.”

I yawned and reported, “Not convinced yet.”

“Oh, that’s it,” she snarled, fed up with my antics. Stepping close, she grabbed the front of my shirt. “You want to be convinced that I liked being with you, fine! I’ll convince you.”

I opened my mouth to tell her, no, I hadn’t mentioned anything about needing performance feedback. I just didn’t want her to hate me now. But she pulled me into her before I could say anything, and she plastered her mouth to mine.

Unraveled by Alexia Chase

Title: Unraveled
An Everyday Heroes World Novel
Author: Alexia Chase
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: January 28, 2021

BLURB

Alexia Chase’s Unraveled is a fast-paced, emotionally charged, sexy, contemporary romance written in K. Bromberg’s Everyday Heroes Worlds project.

Can a man who’s been burned find love with a woman who’s full of sunshine and happily ever afters?

Kameron Willoughby

His mom walked out the door when he was twelve and never looked back. That was Kameron’s first taste of a woman letting him down, but certainly not the last.
Over the years, he’s caught his high school girlfriend with his best friend. And his last girlfriend used him to humiliate another woman. To say he’s bitter and looking to lick his wounds is an understatement.
When his cousin offers him a place to stay in Sunnyville, he jumps at the chance. Little did he know, he’d meet Little Miss Sunshine herself.

Layla Malone

She’s looking for Mr. Right, and he has some big shoes to fill. The men in her family have loyal hearts and a helping spirit. The biggest complaint people have about her is that she’s always rushing off to rescue someone. Why’s that such a bad thing?
The first time she meets Kameron, she’s wrangling ducklings when one accidently falls into a rainwater drain.

Kameron couldn’t be farther from what she’s looking for. He’s grumpy, doesn’t like animals, and thinks she’s a do-gooder. Every time they meet, she’s jumping headfirst into helping someone, and he’s lecturing her on taking unnecessary risks.
What happens when two people, who have nothing in common, keep getting thrown together?

One thing that’s soon apparent – they have an undeniable scorching chemistry that has them both unraveling.

Will they stay enemies? Do they have more in common than they think?

Can Layla show Kameron that there’s light after the darkness? Or will Kameron destroy Layla’s belief that life is sunshine and rainbows?

This story is filled with breaking preconceived notions, resolving miscommunications, learning to appreciate your past, and healing old wounds.

There’s also some duck wrangling, cat rescuing, sexy firefighting, and an eighty-year-old man’s rushed delivery to a nursing home before his erectile dysfunction medication wears off.

Are you ready to enjoy the next Everyday Hero? Kameron’s one Grumpalicious fireman.

EXCERPT

Layla
Between Gertrude and I, we manage to corral three of the baby ducks into the park as several customers file out of the café to cheer me on.
I lean down and swoosh my arms in the air as another puffball waddles toward the yellow center line. “Oh, no, you don’t.”
At my exaggerated movements, the duckling shots into the grass like a fox is hot on his tail feathers. “Good job, little one.”
By now, cars on both sides of the road have come to a complete stop. Mayor Winston steps out of his Cadillac. He leans against the door with his arm resting over the top edge. “Beautiful day, isn’t it?”
I swipe a strand of hair out of my eyes, but it continues to swirl. “Yes, it is.”
He chuckles as Gertrude darts to the side of the road and frantically quacks at a duckling that has wandered down the cement gutter. “She sure has her hands full with this batch. I don’t think they’re going to make it.”
“You and me both,” I sigh in utter frustration. There’s no time to make idle conversation. I jog to catch up with them before another unsuspecting driver ends up running over the little family.
Not that there’s anywhere for vehicles to go. The road to the south is blocked by the Mayor and a couple other drivers who’ve stopped to chat with him. And from the north, a large 4×4 is angled sideways to block traffic.
I squint. Who’s that? I don’t recognize the vehicle. Before I can catch a glimpse of the driver, the pipsqueak on the loose slips between the rails of the drain grate and disappears.
“Oh, shit.” My heart skips a beat. I run to the covered trench and stare inside with my co-parent quacking and fluttering her head from side to side. How am I going to get you out of there?
“What are you doing?” A deep voice booms from behind me.
My mouth drops, and I pivot on my heel. Holy hotness, Batman. The man, who has apparently emerged from a monster truck with dual tailpipes, strides across the pavement.
The muscles in his shoulders and neck ripple with each movement. When did superheroes start wearing low-hung jeans and wifebeaters? I swallow over the dry ball of lust in my throat and straighten my back. “Gertrude’s baby duckling fell into the drain.”
He yanks the sunglasses off his face, and the darkest pair of brown eyes stare at me in utter disbelief. Then, he glances in all directions. “And that warrants this mess?”
I jerk backward. “What mess?”
“This.” As he waves his hand in a circle in front of him, his eyes flash with contempt. “You’re holding up traffic. All the lookie-loos are out gawking. And the Mayor’s over there holding an impromptu press conference.”
I spin around to see Mayor Winston grinning from ear to ear as he uses his hands to talk. Tracie Atherton and Max Parson have their cellphones up as they appear to be recording his conversation. Welcome to Sunnyville, California.
“Then, move on.” I shrug. “It doesn’t have to be your business.”
The man purses his lips. “Yes, it does. We received a call at the fire department, and I’m the lucky one who got the assignment.”

Life isn’t all mai tais, coconut cupcakes and the big “O,” but it should be.

I met Wes on a beach in Hawaii. Tall, tan, unruly blond hair and don’t even get me started on that gritty southern accent.

To the locals, he was Wes, “The manta ray whisperer.” To me, he was an infuriating, too young for me surfer dude.

But that didn’t stop me from falling into bed with him.

Being with Wes was thrilling, but he’s all wrong for me. All wrong for my life. After our week was over, I snuck out of his beach house without a goodbye. I was never going to see him again, right?

How wrong I was when I walked into Cardwell Bourbon a few months later to find
Weston Cardwell and those smoldering green eyes staring at me from across a conference table.

Working together will be a challenge. His family is counting on me to save their bourbon empire.

Wes and I have nothing in common except for our hot for each other chemistry—it’s hotter than the copper lining in a bourbon barrel.

But that’s the thing about copper, it’s an effective heat conductor—maybe too effective.

DECIDEDLY WITH LUCK by Stina Lindenblatt

Release Date: January 28

Masquerade ball rule #1: what happens at the ball doesn’t always stay at the ball.

Oops.

A chance encounter with a masked stranger at a charity ball led to an incredible kiss and a night of hot sex. The kiss was my goal for that night, a baby step forward after my husband’s death a year ago. The hot sex? Not so much.

You know what else hadn’t been my goal?

To be knocked up by a man whose identity is a mystery to me.

So now I’m preparing for my impending motherhood and planning a fundraiser to provide books for foster kids.

The latter is where hot hockey player Logan Mathews comes in…

****
The last time I saw Kiera Ashdown was the night of the Jingle Balls masquerade ball. She’d wanted her first time with a man after her husband’s death to be with a stranger.

After my NHL team trades me to San Francisco, where my daughter and ex-wife live, I’m determined to be a better father and not repeat past mistakes. My hockey career and my daughter come first.

The last thing I expect to discover is that Kiera is my seven-year-old daughter’s teacher. The last thing I expect to learn is that she’s pregnant with my dead best friend’s child.

And the last thing I want to admit is that I was the one who made love to Kiera—several times—the night of the ball.

Because if she ever found out that I’d lied to her, I could lose her friendship. I could lose so much more…

Decidedly with Luck is a standalone romance. All the books in the series can be read in any order.
