Charming and the Cherry Blossom by LJ Evans

LJ Evans has revealed the cover for
Charming and the Cherry Blossom!

Releasing July 16, 2021

Love turns every story into a fairy tale.

Today was a fairy tale…
I inherited a fortune from a dad I never knew,
And a thoroughly charming guy asked me out.

Unfortunately, my fairy tale could disappear in ninety days…
Because there's an impossible task to complete,
And a greedy cousin plotting against me.

Plus, I'm not your typical fairy tale princess.
I have a secret that might send my charming running,
And threatens my future if the press finds out.

If today was a fairy tale…
Why does my happily ever after look so far out of reach?

From award-winning author, LJ Evans, comes a contemporary romance filled with all the magic, hope, and love of a fairy tale plus the small-town, old-soul vibe her fans adore. Inspired by Taylor Swift's "Today Was a Fairytale," this slow-burn romance is pure escapism.

A full-length, standalone adult romance.

Meet LJ Evans

Award winning author, LJ Evans, lives in the California Central Valley with her husband, daughter, and the terrors called cats. She's been writing, almost as a compulsion, since she was a little girl and will often pull the car over to write when a song lyric strikes her. A former first-grade teacher, she now spends her free time reading and writing, as well as binge-watching original shows like The Crown, A Discovery of Witches, Veronica Mars, and Stranger Things.

If you ask her the one thing she won't do, it's pretty much anything that involves dirt–sports, gardening, or otherwise. But she loves to write about all of those things, and her first published heroine was pretty much involved with dirt on a daily basis, which is exactly why LJ loves fiction novels–the characters can be everything you're not and still make their way into your heart.

Her debut novel, MY LIFE AS A COUNTRY ALBUM, was the Independent Author Network's 2017 YA Book of the Year.

A Mountain Haven Novel!

Releasing July 13, 2021

Elle
Move away. Dye my hair. Change my name. Fly under the radar.
That's my plan to keep the public from recognizing me. I just want to be the new business owner of an old-fashioned barber shop, the ultimate man cave. But all anyone seems to remember is that I'm the bad girl on a popular reality show.

And when I meet the new sexy veterinarian, his gruff voice and grumpy manner get my blood pumping. His sweet way with animals makes me want to know everything about him.

For the first time in my life, cameras aren't broadcasting my every move. No producer is telling me what to say or do. No one's pushing me toward him.

This natural gravitation toward him is the realest thing I've ever felt.
But when my past collides with my present, everything comes crashing down around me.

I wish I could just hide, but I can't.

Gray
Escape my past. Keep my secrets buried. And secure the dream job.

That's my plan to change my life.
I'm living like I could pack up and leave at a moment's notice.
Now, my new boss won't sell me his practice unless I convince him I'm here to stay.

Fresh from LA, Elle Carmichael walks into my vet office with her puppy and plans for her business. With her sunny disposition and wide-eyed hope, she thinks she's a good fit for this town. As soon as her crazy business plan fails, she'll be gone.

Getting involved with her is the worst kind of trouble. It will only attract attention to my past, ruining my future.

I wish I could resist her, but I can't.

Action / Suspense / Mystery Cross Genre

Date Published: May 2021

Paleontologist Dr. Secora James is still reeling from injuries sustained in the previous summer’s mountain top battle and the adoption of Monta, an Andean orphan. Her best friend, Gideon Yellow Thunder, has something important to discuss. Still, before she can listen, Secora receives a desperate call from a fellow paleontologist, Billy Riggins, who’s under attack at a mammoth site in Western Washington.

Secora travels from Montana with Monta to find out if Billy is dead. Will her growing knowledge of his taboo discovery and the accumulation of indisputable proof also threaten her life and that of her tiny daughter? Where is the skeleton? Gideon, shaken by the realization Secora will always be rushing away from him, leaves town to help a client solve a mystery in remote Western Montana. There he meets Kamal, the owner’s son, and caretaker Jake Lansing.

The three men are attacked by a dead-eyed assassin who wounds Kamal, then seals them inside a cold, wet mine. Jimmy Lizardeye, a Lakota Wichasha Wakan and Gideon’s close friend and mentor, asks Secora to meet him near West Glacier. Jimmy is worried; he is unable to reach Gideon by phone or in spirit. If he and Secora can track the victims down, can any of them rebound from the cave-in and hypothermia?

A few days later, Secora hears from the university’s Anthropology department; her sister, Iris, and good friend Jane have disappeared with their team of students into the Peruvian Yungas. She must leave for South America with Jimmy and a university-sponsored team, including two treacherous companions. What about little Monta?

Secora’s parents are away traveling teaching, the babysitter can’t handle an extra child for an entire week, and she can’t leave the baby with a stranger. They must embark on another dangerous journey together.

Can Secora survive?

Will her baby be safe? Her circle of family and friends is critically important to her, yet they’ve all seemingly disappeared in a matter of days. Will she survive personal tests, assassins, and terror birds? Can she manage the loss of those closest to her?

Thrilling events cause bonds to strengthen throughout her spiritually and culturally diverse extended family.

Rising Wind: The Thunder Beings

Rising Wind Series, Book One

Published: April 2021

When impassioned paleontologist Secora James is summoned to South America to confirm or dispel rumors of a creature long-thought extinct, she lands herself in more trouble than she had ever imagined.

Secora knows that the Mapinguari, a giant ground sloth that rivals King Kong for size, is probably just a local myth dreamed up by the indigenous tribes. Or is it? Gideon Yellow Thunder is Montana’s top real estate broker and is perfectly content with his modern life, choosing to leave behind his Lakota heritage in order to lead a life of wealth and success. But when he starts having visions of bison on the open prairie, he feels compelled to act… Now two separate lives are on a collision course as Gideon sets off for the jungles of Brazil to find a woman he’s never met and protect the sacred beings he’d long given up believing in— the Thunderbirds. Could they be real after all? Or are they just a myth? Gideon’s about to find out in the adventure of a lifetime, where everything he’d pushed aside is determined to leave its mark on his life. Hoka hey! It’s a good day to die.

Clothilde

Book 3 in The Comet Trilogy

Historical Romance, Fantasy Romance, Historical Adventure

Date Published: May 7, 2021

Publisher: DCL Publications

Daughter of Norman aristocrats, Clothilde du Flaumier is hopelessly in love with the illegitimate son of a nobleman. Her father will never countenance their marriage, nor does the object of her affections want one. But who else is there for such a stubborn, reckless girl?

Excerpt

She was pointing at her nemesis, thirsting to see him extinguished before her eyes. God would have to forgive her later. Guie’s horse, trained to a fine art, jumped a prone body on the ground—Dain—and landed at a full stop just ahead of the fleeing kidnapper, allowing Guie to land on the backstroke. It was over in seconds. She heard his sword in the air, the thud as it met flesh, and then she didn’t want to see any more.

The others were running for their lives, but the second knight rode them down like chasing mice, leaning from his horse at a full gallop, hewing them down. Within moments, justice had been administered. Nothing but dead bodies lay in the road except for Clothilde and Dain.

Clothilde lay retching and heaving in the dust, gasping for air. She saw a horse’s forefeet in front of her, then felt hands on her shoulders. Her sister’s husband jerked her to her feet in a single motion and then had to hold her up.

Are you hurt?” he asked, one mailed arm around her like iron. “Clothilde, are you hurt?”

She shook her head. “Just winded.” She spared a glance for Dain, who was still sprawled at the roadside with the second knight simply standing in front of him, dismounted. But he had left him his head.

What the fuck is this?” Guie demanded furiously.

I…went over the cliffs,” Clothilde gasped. “He found me. He was bringing me home.”

From here?”

He took me to his home first. They took care of me. Please, Guie, don’t kill him.”

That is not a likely story,” the second knight put in. She glanced up at him long enough to know she didn’t know him. He was young, dark haired, with piercing blue eyes, and speaking with assurance. “I found where you went down and it was right on your own land. You didn’t fall, you were taken down. Then this turd grabbed you for a little ransom, which now is a reward, so he was returning you. Isn’t that the way it went?”

She saw Dain watching, not trying to defend himself. There was no point. They were aristocrats, he was a peasant. They would do with him as they wished, law or no law. But he knew now she was no lady’s maid.

You’ve taken Lord Hugo’s daughter, you idiot.” The unknown knight spat into the bushes—more disgust than dust. By her count, he had killed three men in mere seconds and his attitude clearly conveyed he wouldn’t mind one more.

Please don’t kill him, he doesn’t deserve it,” Clothilde begged.

That will be for Hugo to judge.” Guie was steadying her on her feet, but she could tell he was still furious. Well, let her father judge, then. There were no witnesses left alive. They were lying in bloodied heaps on the road. She turned aside, retching.

He will not be back for some time,” Guie said when she had finished. “Harold is defeated but they are harrying his remnant to the north. I’ve come back for Cecile’s confinement, no more, then I must return. But you…”

He looked at her with a dire shake of the head.

All I did was to go fishing,” Clothilde protested.

Alone. On an unguarded beach with everyone gone to war. Tilde, I do not know what to do with you.” He looked over at the second knight. “Estman, are you not in need of a wife?”

She was published in poetry before catching the romance writing bug. Her published works range from contemporary fantasy romance to fantasy historical, futuristic, science fiction and historical romance. It was in Ireland that she wrote The King’s Daughter. Ireland is her favorite place in this world. “I connect there with something I can’t even explain,” she says fondly.

Miriam spent many years working in Social Services, and after retirement, she found herself working part-time in local government. Currently, she lives in rural Pennsylvania with a “motley crew” of rescue animals. Her passion for animal rescue and fostering has included a number of fur babies, from horses to dogs to a pig that appeared on her porch one morning. Francesca Penn lives in Texas with her husband and son. While obtaining her Technical Writing degree, a creative writing course and playwriting elective reawakened her desire to create stories. Her brain lives in fiction; even the songs she listens to become music videos in her head.

When she is not writing, she can be found hounding her loved ones with multiple “What-if” scenarios. As a true closet romantic, she is prone to filling up her DVR with Hallmark movies. A friend once told her that she’d trained the whole 20 plus years she’d known her to write romance since her nose was always in a love story.

Francesca believes that love is colorblind and plans to provide a mix of couples of different races and ethnicities because – to her – men are like Skittles, and we all know their motto.

King Ellie discovered her love for dark romance through reading and as she read more and more of them, she discovered that this was the genre she wanted to write it. The antiheroes and what others would classify as villains, she sees them as an opportunity to show what a hurt, heartbroken male who is seen as anything but can love harder. The heroines get a chance to be loved deeply and only by the antiheroes. Love isn’t always just black and white… it’s a spectrum of color.

TRAILER

EXCERPT

Severe shivers wrack my body when he licks a wet trail down to the juncture of my neck. He pauses, and it feels like my body is hanging over a pointed knife. I hold my breath, the anticipation rattling my bones.
And then he’s biting down again, pulling an animalistic sound from the depths of my chest. He does this, over and over, leaving a trail of bruises down my neck and across my shoulder.
I’m breathless by the time he pulls away.
“Good girl,” he breathes, his own voice airy. Somehow, that makes me feel worse. I want him to hate it as much as I should be.
I can’t explain why I do what I do next. I’ll ask the She Devil above later. But in that moment, I’m so overcome with a tsunami of emotions that I reach up and bite his cheek.
Hard.
Blood spurts into my mouth but I don’t care, I just bite harder.
Maybe I want to hurt him back. Give him a taste of his own medicine. Make him feel whatever I feel.
Regardless of the reason, he doesn’t take kindly to it. His hand wraps around my throat, pushing me back while he rips his face away with a feral growl. My head thumps against the wall, a dull throb radiating from the spot.
He’s squeezing tightly, but I don’t care. I feel justified. If he kills me here and now, at least I can say I left one last mark on him.
He growls low, a sound of frustration and something else that I can’t put a name to.
I stare up at him, blood coating my tongue and trailing down my chin. It’s a small amount, I didn’t get the chance to rip his face to shreds like I wanted. But the small dots of blood on his face leave me feeling invigorated all the same.
Then he grins, and my heart drops in response. “I’m beginning to think you like to be punished, which means I’m just going to have to do better.”
Before I can react, he’s lifting me up and tossing me over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes.
“Fucker!” I snap, banging my fists against his back. I am not a potato.
A sharp slap to my ass is his only response.
He carries me down the steps, takes a left turn into the hallway and down towards the sunroom. The entire time I fight, kicking and punching, but he acts like he’s being attacked by a butterfly.
As if he hears my frustrations, he says, “Baby, the wind can do more damage than what you’re doing.”
“Want to see my teeth again, asshole? I’ll keep making your face uglier.”
“Keep telling yourself that, but we both know my scars make you wet,” he retorts, amusement coloring his words. I growl, frustrated by how fucking unruffled he is. And because he’s not entirely wrong.
No, dumbass he is wrong.
More curses flood out of my mouth, but they’re cut short when he drags my body down his front until my legs are wrapped around his waist and he’s cradling me to his chest.
Oh, fuck this.
I lift my hands to scratch his face, maybe do a little eye gouging, but instead I just squeal. He swoops me backward, my stomach bottoming out as he sets me on the ground, flat on my back. He kneels before me, his arms on either side of my head as he braces himself over me.
Above him, the stars are twinkling bright and the nearly full moon is directly above, casting a soft white glow down in the room.
It’s almost dooming that the sky happens to be completely clear of clouds tonight. Seattle is constantly plagued by overcast skies.
I swallow, tears pricking my eyes.
“Such a gentleman, letting me look at the stars as you murder me,” I mouth off, forcing the words through my tightened throat.
I really need to shut the fuck up. But I can’t seem to stop myself. Apparently when I’m in a life-threatening situation, all I can manage to do is make it worse.
Some might call it fearlessness, but I just call it stupidity.
He supports himself on one hand as the other reaches behind him. I open my mouth, gearing up for more insults when his arm reappears, a gun in his hand.
Another audible click of my teeth later, and I’m back to being choked silent with fear.
“You let a man touch you in here. Make you come,” he states, his tone bled dry of emotion. “Normally, I’d replace his fingers with my own, but I think you need something else to teach you a lesson.”
“Okay, I’m sorry,” I rush out, my eyes widening as he points the gun to my chest. “I-I’m really, rea—”
“Shh,” he hushes. “You’re not sorry yet, little mouse. But you will be.”
