BLACKMAILING MR. BOSSMAN by Anna Hackett

Release Date: June 22

To save my best friend’s husband, all I have to do is blackmail a billionaire.

My friend’s husband was abducted by a gang of white-collar criminals. These guys are bad, and they want her to spy on her boss—a man who owns half of New York. She’s falling apart and she needs my help.

My name’s Aspen. I’m a private investigator, and I’m usually doing surveillance on cheating spouses or insurance scammers, but now I’m going undercover.

I’m trading my jeans for skirts, and playing assistant at Kensington Group so I can get up close and personal with Liam Kensington—the owner of a multibillion-dollar construction and property empire.

Not to mention a tall, lean, golden-haired god with a sexy British accent.

The white-collar thieves have Liam in their sights and in return for my friend’s husband, they want me to blackmail a billionaire. Aw, hell.

But I didn’t count on how Liam would make me feel, or my crazy need to keep him safe, or our incendiary attraction.

Now I have to save a man’s life, catch some bad guys, and stop myself from falling in love with a billionaire who’s way out of my league.

“June shines in this retelling of Rumpelstiltskin . . . with memorable characters that will appeal to a broad range of fantasy readers.” —SCHOOL LIBRARY JOURNAL

If Nor can’t spin gold, she can always spin lies.

When seventeen-year-old Nor rescues a captured faerie in the woods, he gifts her with a magical golden thread she can use to summon him for a favor. Instead, Nor uses it for a con—to convince villagers to buy straw that can be transformed into gold. Her trick works a little too well, attracting the suspicion of Prince Casper, who hates nobody more than a liar. Intent on punishing Nor, he demands that she spin a room of straw into gold and as her reward, he will marry her. Should she refuse or fail, the consequences will be dire.

From being unknown, to my name, Neevah Saint, on everyone’s lips.
Canon casts me in a star-studded Harlem Renaissance biopic, catapulting me into another stratosphere.

Excerpt

“Turn around.”

It’s a guttural command.
He bends me over the arm of the couch, and my hands hit the cushion for support, to steady myself. At the sound of the condom tearing, my inner muscles contract, bracing for him. He spreads my cheeks and, slipping his whole hand between my legs, cups the trembling flesh. I’m unprepared for the swipe of his tongue. For the subtle abrasion of his beard scraping the inner skin of my thighs. For the sound of him eating me. I push back against his face, helpless, no shame. Digging my nails into the cushions, I widen my legs to give me more, to take more for myself. He grips my thighs, holding me steady for his devouring mouth until, with a sob that sails over the rooftop, over the city, I contract around his delving tongue. The orgasm hits hard, tightening the muscles in my thighs and calves. With staccato breaths, I bury my face in the couch, biting my lip to the point of pain.

“Canon,” I beg. “Stop teasing me and—”

He shoves in, and the words tumble back down my throat, recessing into the shock of this pleasure.

“Jesus.” Need shreds my voice to ribbons.

He coasts his hand up my back, gently cuffs my neck. Ass in the air, I rise up on my toes, begging for breath, petitioning for more dick. He gives it to me, pushing impossibly deeper.

“So damn good,” he grunts behind me.

I hope I never get over how perfect he feels inside me, like I was molded to his specifications. Shaped for his dimensions. I moan and reach my hand back to pull at one of my cheeks, widening the way for his cock. It feels like he goes where no dick has gone before, deeper, better. Somehow I feel each thrust in my heart. His every touch plays on my emotions, and tears sting my eyes. His hand tightens at my hip, and he slides the other hand up my arm, finds my hand on the couch and laces our fingers together. He sets a frenetic pace that sends the blood singing through my body again. The cushion absorbs my scream as I come, and I punish the soft cotton with clawing nails. With his voice strangled, his fingers fisted in my hair, he comes.

Collapsing against my back, a heavy, happy burden, his breath stilted and warm at my neck, he snakes one muscled arm around my middle, clutching me. After the urgent, feral coupling, it’s a cherishing hold. I cross my arm over his at my waist and tangle our fingers. It’s fragile and sweet, this moment, like flakes of sugar disintegrating on your tongue when you’ve barely had time to taste.

Ascension
The Age of Shadow Saga Book 1
by Marc R. Micciola
Genre: Epic Fantasy
Many years ago, every race in Midstad came together to imprison a dangerous foe; however not everyone supported this decision and some swore in secret to set Him free one day.
Now, nearly two hundred years later the world is prospering during its longest age of peace. Elves are hidden away in their forests, dwarves live deep within their mountains, and humans have come together in a way which has never been done before. Life for every race is peaceful, until a mythical cult, The Black Light, makes their name heard in every corner of Midstad.
One violent day of assassinations sends elves, dwarves, and humans alike into a panic. The Black Light has shown themselves to be more real than many would have wished them to be, and they have named their leader; Iver, an heir to one of the human kingdoms.
Einar, son of the King of Hestferd, and his allies scramble to devise a proper response to this act of war. Their biggest worry? A name shouted by the assassins; Kemryr, the great foe who was imprisoned centuries ago.
Many believe him to be nothing more than a myth nowadays, but myths seem to be becoming very real as of late. Einar’s father wishes to learn more, and so he turns to a secret friend for help. Together, Einar and his father seek out answers while Iver and his followers continue to carry out their plan in the hopes to reach their ultimate goal.

~ Barb Shuler ~

Barb is a Carolina girl by right and a Texan by birth. By day she’s a desk jockey for a rural transportation company and a book lover, reading through as many books as she can. At night, though, she turns into her alter ego: a writer—cape optional, depending on her mood.

Her stories are a mix of real-life events, personal experiences, and the craziness of her own imagination and those of her best friends. And when their imaginations blend together, it can be crazy. Barb writes in multiple genres, encounters new adventures, creates new worlds, and has a fantastic time breathing life into new stories, creating something she hopes inspires anyone who reads to fall in love with them as she has.

Barb lives by one little rule: tomorrow is never guaranteed, so make sure you live each day to its fullest.

~ Ever Jensen ~

Ever Jensen is a southern girl living in the wild Wisconsin north with her beau, their two dogs, and more coffee than what’s legally allowed. When she isn’t out tent camping, hiking to the next waterfall, or searching for the latest parks to explore, Ever loves spending her time at home playing with her labs, cooking meals like the pro-chef she is (her beau’s words, not hers!) or sipping wine next to a beautiful fire.

With creativity flowing from her hands at a young age, Ever finally channeled her inner young writer and decided that it was time to put pen to paper (hands to keyboard?) and began to write the stories locked in her head for so long. Her love for the written word has long been ingrained in her, and she’s excited to share that love with you all. Or, as she’s used to saying it in the south, y’all!

She is an avid reader, blogger and does PA work for a few authors, which keeps her quite busy. Hard rock music lover and horror movie buff, with a love and appreciation for tattoos. Her addictions include copious amounts of caffeine, Chinese food and Haribos candy.

~ Sarah L Roth ~

Just a Long Island girl living in a Southern world…..

20 years ago, a Jew moved from the comfort of her Long Island home for parts unknown of South Carolina. She had to learn and adapt to the ways of the South, real quick like. For years, she was on a quest for Northern goodies in a Southern town. The journey for the proper bagel and the perfect NYC pizza always eluded her. The ever-loving theater geek, she craved the bright lights of the big city and planned to return some day. All her plans changed when she attempted to settle down. The “Experiments” came exactly five years apart (one boy and one girl) and both are every bit as eclectic as she. Boy Experiment sings The Beastie Boys and Taylor Swift on demand, while Girl Experiment shouts “Where is Thumpkin” with gusto of a head-banging Metal God.

Once adapted, she made a life with her B.A. in Theatre Performance in hand, and continued to find balance between Faith and the delights of slower Southern living. Now fluent in “Bless your hearts” and understanding the importance of pearl-clutching, she visits the hustle and bustle of the Big Apple, but loves coming home to her children. Her family humors her and the kids enjoy her antics.

Yikes. We’re not going there for the thousandth time.
I’ve got small-town problems aplenty and zero time for Paxton “Alaska” Charter.
Crushing on smokeshow men with caveman vibes can’t end well.

Sure, he saved my little coffee shop from total ruin once.
Yes, my ovaries melt watching single dad of the century with his little boy.
Of course, I’d sleep like a baby if I let him work his former SEAL hero magic on my mess.
That’s not why I’m freaking out.

Nobody told me how devastatingly kind Alaska can be.
Or the fact that his stubborn heart’s even more guarded than mine.
If he comes barreling into my life, it’s certain doom.
And it’s all thrown to the wind the day his kiss claims me.

We have to say goodbye. Right now. Before it’s too late.

EXCERPT:

Look, I’ve had a stressful few months. Years. Life.

I’m a little on edge, and a little emotionally raw.

But he saves me from having to fumble for words by turning a roguish smile on me, mock-squinting. “You, though. I’ve got my eye on you. I think you could be trouble.”

My laugh this time comes out weaker. “I wish that wasn’t true. I’m kind of a bad luck trap, Alaska.”

“Like an avalanche of coffee mugs?”

“Yep. Just like a mug storm.”

Another silence.

Another smile that makes my heart wobble.

Another long look from him, one that makes me wonder how he went from “coffee girl I vaguely recognize” to a sort of confidante in a matter of minutes. All over some smashed mugs and a cut on his knee.

But, hey, at least I’m not going to break down crying in front of a total stranger because he has mercy on me and changes the subject.

“So what’s the damage, lady? Give me all of it. Don’t forget the table, too.”

“We’ll forget the table. And the floor. Call it pain and injury compensation.” I smile wryly. “We’re at a cool eight hundred for the mugs, though. Manufacturer cost. I’m not charging you full retail.”

“You got it. I’d pay up now, but I’m not carrying eight hundred in cash around with me.” He cocks his head. “I’ll bring it by in the morning unless you want a check? Ladies ’choice.”

“No rush, but cash is fine.”

Too easy. Even if I’m already doubting the wisdom of keeping that much cash around here for more than a day or two, but that’s another problem I don’t want to think about right now.

So I stand, bracing my hands to my knees and levering up.

Of course, I forget not just how small my office is, but how much space Alaska occupies.

As I straighten and lift my head, I find myself practically eye to eye with him, and only because sitting on my desk knocked off like a foot from his titanic height.

I lock up, my heart crawling up my throat as I stare, barely an inch away from our noses touching.

This jittery little fantasy.

It’s not quite insta-love, but it’s bad.

If he didn’t still look so calm and unfazed, I’d probably dissolve into a stammering mess. But it’s like his inner chill stabilizes me, and I’m able to skitter back without tripping, clearing my throat and finding another smile in me.

Somewhere.

“Should we check on Eli?” I tilt my head toward the door. “Either he’s cleaned the whole shop by now or bailed.”

Alaska snorts. “He knows better, but yeah. He’s probably getting a little anxious out there.”

I sweep a mock-bow, pulling the door open for him. “Polar bears first.”

He throws back an evil eye over his shoulder.

“I’m gonna regret telling you that,” he grumbles.

Ruth “Ruthless” Harper is on the verge of becoming managing partner at her all-male consulting firm and she won’t let anything stand in her way. That includes men, relationships, and that dreaded F word, FEELINGS—distractions she eliminated long ago.

After the worst day ever (a near-death experience and a public wedgie, for starters), Ruth realizes she doesn’t want to live and die alone. She puts together a business plan to find the perfect man and dives head first into the murky online dating pool. All she wants is a high-powered executive who understands how important her career is. If only it were that easy.

Problem is most men are intimidated by Ruth’s confidence and shocked by her bluntness. The exception being her landscape designer, Nick, whose cool demeanor and unsolicited dating advice are driving her nuts. EXCERPT:

RUTH

I have orchestrated multi-million dollar business deals and have butted heads with Fortune 500 CEOs and some of the biggest corporate lawyers in the country, but my biggest challenge by far was trying to remove a monster wedgie during my spinning class without the gorgeous guy behind me noticing.

Casually turning my head to the right, I checked my periphery, confident I looked like some halfwit who was thinking of changing lanes on a stationary bike.

I couldn’t tell if the man had his eyes focused on me or on the instructor in front of the class, but it didn’t matter at this point. I had real-world issues here and needed to solve the dilemma before my butt sucked all my clothes inside my body and turned me inside out.

With every revolution of my bike’s spinning wheel, the wedgie seemed determined to go deeper, like a burrowing squirrel who hadn’t found a suitable place for habitation.

I got up at five in the morning for this torture?

To make matters worse, the instructor—Manson, Mussolini, or whatever his name was—appeared to be on a mission to send us all into cardiac arrest. And don’t even get me started on the chafing from a bike seat that was obviously manufactured with materials excavated from the surface of Mars.

I needed a distraction for the extraction.

Glancing down at my water bottle in the drink holder, I came up with the perfect plan. I would wait for the instructor to get us up off our seats again for the next sprint, then drop my water bottle on the floor to create a ruckus.

If the man behind me was a gentleman—no wagers, please—he would get off his bike and get the water bottle for me, thus taking any attention away from my derrière long enough for me to perform the embarrassing and delicate wedgie-removing procedure without him seeing.

Ironically, the song changed to “Shake Your Booty” by KC and the Sunshine Band.

“Off your butts!” the instructor barked out like a psychotic sea lion with Tourette’s. “Take it up to level five for a sprint. Thirty seconds. Go! Go! Go!”

Perfect timing.

I slammed my water bottle to the floor behind me for the distraction.

It crashed against the back wall with a loud BOOM.

Never let it be said I did anything half-assed.

No pun intended.

I checked my periphery again to see if the guy fell for the trap.

Bingo.

He slowed his pedaling and glanced behind him at my bottle on the floor.

After he made a move to get off his bike, I lifted my butt off the seat, leaned forward on the handlebars, shifted all my body weight over to my left hand, and used my right hand to reach behind me and remove the mother of all wedgies.

Oh, no.

Completing the task was proving to be difficult since it was almost impossible to pedal while standing up on the bike with only one hand gripping the handlebars.

I used one finger, then two, then three, but still couldn’t dig out the wedgie that must have been halfway to China by now.

Losing confidence with every second that passed, I wobbled back and forth like the Elvis bobblehead doll on the dashboard of my dad’s 1977 Cadillac Coupe deVille.

Things were heading south in a hurry.

There was a sharp pain in my left wrist.

My elbow buckled.

Timber!

The fall to the floor was not graceful.

I banged my shoulder on the handlebars on the way down, slid off the bike sideways, and hooked my foot on top of the pedal. My other leg flew over my head and got wedged in between the bike seat and the drink holder.

Great.

Now, I had two wedgies.

Before I had a chance to untangle and upright myself, two hands gripped me from under my armpits and lifted me to my feet in one swift motion.

I looked up, dazed, confused, blinking a few times.

It was the guy who had been on the bike behind me. “Are you okay?”

There was genuine concern in his voice, but I was a big girl and could take care of myself.

Flustered, I said the first thing I could think of. “I do that all the time.”

A smile tugged at the corner of his lips. “Of course.”
