Dominic lifted my veil, and I sobbed harder at the thought of what came next. Never before did I imagine my first kiss to be with a man who despised me, and I especially did not imagine it to be in front of nearly three hundred strangers on my wedding day. But, here we were with Dominic preparing himself to steal the first part of my innocence.

Ignoring my tears, Dominic made a big show of sweeping me into his arms before placing a sweet, chaste kiss on my lips. I cried harder as the crowd went wild.

Smile, Sasha,” he commanded in his rough voice as he took my hand and led me down the aisle amongst cheers and rose pedals. I tried my best to bottle my emotions and smile pretty, but I felt dazed by the days events.

The cool air on my face as we finally reached the doorway of the church brought me out of my stupor. People threw rose petals on us, and photographers snapped pictures as we made our way towards the car. I wanted to scream and shout at all of them for not helping me.

Where are we going?” I asked Dominic as we settled into the limo. I didnt want to talk to him, but I honestly had no idea what came next. My family had taken care of all the planning, and no one deemed to tell me anything about it.

The largesse of my wedding dress made sitting next to each other impossible, and the distance gave me space to think and take in the events of the last hour.

Take this,” he said in response, handing me a tissue box. Wipe your face and fix your makeup. I dont want to walk into our reception with you looking the way you do.”

His words stung, but I said nothing. Not only did my new husband scare me, but I was too tired to fight so early on into our marriage. Instead, I began dabbing my eyes like the good girl I was raised to be.

The ceremony had been long. Catholic ceremonies always were and considering ours needed to be conducted in both the Orthodox and the Roman way, I was surprised people even agreed to stay.

I was exhausted, and I wanted nothing more than to strip off my heavy dress and take a nap.

Readings, followed by mass, followed by a sermon, followed by vows, and then finally the kiss. So much pomp and circumstance for a wedding we all dreaded. Away from the crowds and the pressure, my tears abated, as I wiped my face and began reapplying my make-up.

No use crying now. I thought. Nothing could be done.

How do I look?” I asked after applying a fresh coat of lipstick. I silently thanked Nadia for insisting on outfitting the limo with emergency supplies.

Dominic took my face in his large hands, gently turning me one way and then another. Despite feeling like cattle under the auction appraisers, I kept my mouth shut and allowed him to inspect me.

You look like a child,” he said with disgust before releasing me from his grip.

“YOU PROMISED MY son a puppy?”
Ryan whipped his head around to see Jane headed in his direction. Make that a very pissed off Jane. The expression on her face was nothing like the one she’d been bewitching him with a few moments ago. Hell, she’d looked so fresh and alluring when he’d had his arms around her, he’d damn near kissed her, right here in front of his family and half the town of Chances Inlet. Not that any red-blooded dude staring down those luscious lips of hers wouldn’t do the same.
But this was Jane “Uptight” Upton Whatever-her-new-name-was.
His sister’s best friend.
His older sister’s best friend.
A married woman.
And where the hell was that husband of hers anyway? The dude should be here having a go at Ryan for the way he’d put his hands all over the guy’s wife. Ryan wanted to bust his own ass for being so touchy-feely with Jane, of all people.
It was just the excitement of the game.
And the fact that he’d been celibate since freaking spring training. Not that the opportunities hadn’t existed. He just hadn’t been interested, despite what was falsely reported about him. Frankly, he’d been beginning to wonder if something was wrong with him.
Until he’d had Jane in his arms.
Nothing to wonder about now. In fact, everything seemed to be in working order and ready for a test drive. Had he held her in his arms any longer, he might have embarrassed himself, his parts were working so well.
But there would no test driving—or anything else—with the woman bearing down on him, however, even if she weren’t married. Or his older sister’s best friend. Or his former tutor. Nope. Jane’s gray eyes were dark as storm clouds. And she was babbling something about a dog.
“Promised who, what?” he asked, resisting the urge to lower his hands so he could protect the family jewels.
“My son, you idiot,” she ground out through clenched teeth. “You promised him Santa would bring him a puppy for Christmas.”
The chorus of gasps and groans around him barely registered. Ryan sucked in a stunned breath. It couldn’t be. But that would mean she wasn’t married. She was a widow. With a young son. One who wanted her to have a—boyfriend for Christmas.
Oh, hell, nah.

USA Today bestselling author Tracy Solheim writes books with shirtless men on the cover. Some of them are actually best-sellers. The books, not the men. I stood inside the automatic doors; hands clenched. This is it. Taking a deep breath, I took a step forward, dodging a group of men in surgical scrubs, and taking a sharp left towards what I thought was the elevator bank. A few steps in and I quickly realized I had gone the wrong way. Instead of elevators, a coffee cart with a line of customers wrapped around the corridor stood in its place. Shit. I must have gotten turned around and needed to go right, not left. I spun around to change course only to plow directly into someone holding a fresh cup of scolding hot coffee.

Oh my god.” I stumbled backwards, my heel catching on the toe of my other shoe.

Hot. Thats hot.” The guy swiped at his chest, coffee running down the front of his shirt and tie.

I looked up into the face of one of the most gorgeous men I had ever seen. Oh my god, you are hot.”

What?” He pulled at his clothes.

I mean, er, yes. Your coffee.” Shit. Its super hot. Im so sorry.” Heat spread across my cheeks for the second time this morning. I reached over the counter for a stack of napkins, trying to remove all evidence of our meeting from his shirt. Did I burn you?”

No its… Im fine. Im good.” He tossed the empty cup into the trash and took the remaining napkins from me.

That was completely my fault. Im gonna be late and I got totally turned around and I wasnt paying attention to where I was going and…”

Its okay.” He smiled. Apology accepted.”

His voice was deep and sensual, forcing my thighs to squeeze together at his words. For a split second I took the risk of looking him in the eye, but quickly decided my knees werent strong enough to handle it. His complexion was a creamy sand and his black pearl eyes were warm but mysterious. Longish onyx hair, a direct contrast to the professional business attire, fell slightly into his face as he looked down at me. My insides melted into warm pools when he reached for my hand, shaking it firmly in his grip.

Ryan,” he said, licking his lips.

Stella.” I breathed, barely audible. Whoa. Electricity passed between us as my heart fell into my stomach. Who was this guy?

Well it was nice meeting you Stella, but Im running late myself.” He dropped my hand. The warm burn remained like a phantom ghost in my palm. Have a good day.”

You too,” I said.

He disappeared through the crowd of visitors pushing in through the Emergency Department and I inhaled a deep breath, allowing my heart to slow down to a normal rate. Several stunned moments passed as it took me to realize that what I had experienced just then was in fact not an out of body experience. That guy, that… Ryan really existed. I caught my reflection in the window and saw my face and chest were still burning a deep red. Plus I was pretty sure my loins were hanging out completely exposed. Not a good look for a positive first impression. I took another deep breath and got myself turned in the right direction, realizing I was supposed to go right instead of left to find the elevators. I was never going to make it on time but at least I wouldnt be lying when I claimed that I had gotten turned upside down, and not just by the building.

My jaw ached from grinding my teeth. I stared out the window, refusing to even look at my dad. I couldnt believe hed hauled me away from Tyson. Another few minutes, and wed have been gone. I wondered whod told. Could have been the Prospect at the gate, or any of my dads spies around town. I should have waited until dark. Even though Id begged Ty to wait, he hadnt listened.

Cant ignore me forever,” my dad said.

Want to bet?

We crossed the Alabama state line and entered Florida. He hadnt said exactly where we were going. Devils Boneyard? They werent far from our current location. I wanted to ask. Pressing my lips together, I forced myself to remain silent.

Fine. Pout like a damn kid, Mariah, but its not going to change anything. Settle in. We still have a bit of a drive.”

I looked over at him. What the hell did that mean? The Devils Boneyard was only another hour, if that. So where were we going? When he took the ramp to head north into Georgia, my stomach knotted. Oh, shit.

Were going to see Farrah?” I asked before I could stop myself.

Nope, but same location.”

Shit. If we werent going to see Farrah, then who? Did my dad want my brother-in-law, Demon, to scare the hell out of me? Because it wouldnt be hard. Just being in his presence was enough to make me pee myself. I knew he doted on my sister, but it didnt change his scare factor. Id heard the stories of what hed done when people crossed him or the Devils Fury.

I tried not to fidget as the truck ate up the miles. My nerves were shot by the time we arrived. Expecting my dad to stop at Farrahs or even the clubhouse, I couldnt hold back my gasp as he kept going. Bile rose in my throat, and I scanned the area, not having a damn clue whose house wed be visiting. The fact hed packed my clothes and a box of my books didnt bode well for this being a quick stop.

Since my dad had taken my phone, I couldnt even text Ty to let him know my current location. I knew hed have come for me. We may not have made our flight today, but we could have gotten another one.

We came to a stop outside a sprawling home. It might have only been one-story, but I could tell it was far from small inside. I got out and stood by the truck, not knowing what to expect. The front door opened and when I saw the large man who strolled out to meet us, my stomach flipped.

You made good time,” Savage said, holding his hand out to my dad.

Needed to get her out of there immediately. Caught her trying to run off with the cop.” My dad glared at me. Nothing to say, Mariah?”

Why am I here?” I asked.

Savages eyebrows rose and he rocked back on his feet. Damn. Im guessing this is a conversation we should have inside. Yall come in. Need me to get anything from the truck?”

I threw a box of her books in the back seat, and she has a bag of clothes. I can send the rest in a few days.” My dad started walking to the house. Getting olds a bitch. Im using your bathroom.”

Savage snickered.

My dad tossed a phone at him. Thats hers. She can have it back, but Im not giving it to her. She may call that shithead cop.”

Savage caught the phone, looked at it a moment, then handed it to me. No calls or texts until we talk. Dont make me regret letting you have that back.”

He opened the back door of the truck and hauled my stuff out like it didnt weigh anything. I had no choice but to follow him into the house. He set my things down inside the door and motioned for me to have a seat in the living room. Gray slate floors stretched in every direction, and the light gray walls added to the drab color scheme.

I sank onto a black leather sofa and eyed the unusual coffee table. It had to be custom-made. The base looked like a large cut tree trunk. Etched into the top were the colors for the Devils Fury, and a piece of glass set over the top, cut to match the edges. I hadnt ever seen anything like it. The wood had been distressed or stained to a dark charcoal.

To my left, a flat screen TV hung from the wall. It had to be at least sixty inches or more. Across from the couch and table were two chairs, and a smaller table set between the two. An ottoman sat catty-corner to one of them, and I figured it must be where Savage usually sat. The chair looked more worn than the other one.

My dad entered the room, his arms folded, and he glared at me. I narrowed my eyes right back and waited to see why hed brought me here.

What did you mean you caught her trying to leave with the cop?” Savage asked, sinking into one of two leather chairs, the one Id thought would be his. He sprawled, reminding me of a big jungle cat.

Ty and I are getting married,” I said.

Savage tensed. That right?”

I didnt tell her,” Dad said. I should have, but I was biding my time.”

Savage arched an eyebrow. That worked out well, didnt it?”

The look they shared told me something was up. Why had my dad brought me here? What had he kept from me?

Tell me what?” I asked.

Casper VanHorne arranged for Savage to claim you as his old lady. Youre already promised to him, Mariah, so you cant marry the damn cop.”

Goodreads / Amazon

We were going to look for the ghost house.” Dom adjusted the faded NY Yankees baseball cap he wore. But Morgan has to be home by five.”

Well never make it there and back in time, and we never leave a man behind,” Josh added, dropping a backpack on the grass next to him. It landed with a clunk.

Ghost house?” I repeated, picturing a boarded-up, decrepit building built during the Civil War or something.

Havent you heard the stories?” Josh asked, eyes wide in amazement.

I shook my head.

Dom walked over to our open garage, grabbed my skateboard out of one of the boxes, and said, Its known as the disappearing house.”

My bewildered gaze slithered from Dom to Josh, finally coming to a stop on Morgan as I tried to decide if they were crazy.

If the house is invisible, how do you expect to find it?” I asked.

Morgan sat on the stoop next to me. Its not always invisible. My brothers saw it once. They said its a big house with a long porch. It vanished before they could set foot on the first step, and Im glad, too.”

Why? What would have happened if they were on the steps?” I asked. Not because I believed an old ghost story had any truth to it, but I was curious to know what shed say.

Morgan had to pick her jaw up from the walkway before she could answer, and when she did her voice came out in a high-pitched squeak. If they had been on the porch or worse—” she swallowed loudly “—inside, they would have disappeared with it.”

Thats a myth,” Dom said as he rode the skateboard down the driveway.

It is not!” Morgan shot back.

Come on, how is a solid person going to disappear?” Dom asked from the sidewalk.

The same way the house does! Duh!” Morgan shook her head as if Dom was the loony one.

Isnt the whole thing…um…you know…a myth?” I asked. There were no such things as ghosts, and buildings didnt just go poof and disappear into thin air. I mean, you dont really believe in—”

The house is real, dude,” Josh said.

And were going inside of it.” Dom did an Ollie, lifting all wheels of the skateboard off the ground.

No, were not!” Morgan shook her head as if that reinforced what shed said. A dark auburn curl snuck out from under her baseball cap. We are,” Josh confirmed. I was with Dom and Josh. Not the part about believing in disappearing houses, but if one happened to exist and I managed to find it, Id want to see inside of it, too.

Goodreads / Amazon

She lay still in his arms, allowing the heat from his body to lull her back into a semi-relaxed state. When he made no move to resume the intimacy of their wedding night, she turned slightly toward him.

Burying his head in her hair, he breathed in her scent as if committing it to memory. I will leave you alone if that is your wish. We can wait until you are ready to consummate our marriage.” Feeling a heavy sorrow at the thought of leaving her, he nonetheless did not want to cause her any more turmoil. He would wait, even as it threatened to dim the joy he felt at finally having her back in his life.

He pressed a kiss against her temple and released her. As he turned away and made his way out of the bed, Psyche was gripped with fear at the thought of him leaving her. It was so strong it overwhelmed her with a desire to keep him by her side in spite of her reservations.

Not understanding her reaction to his departure, she cried out, Wait!” Reaching out to stop him, she was shocked to discover what her hand was gripping. You have wings,” she said in startled amazement.

Eros stopped and shuddered at the touch of her hand on his wing. It was the first touch she initiated between them of her own volition, and it devastated him. Holding still, for he did not trust himself, he waited to see what she would do.

Psyche was too stunned to do anything but hold on to his wing for several moments. When he did nothing to repudiate her touch, she slowly slid her hand down his wing, marveling at the soft texture and heat. Repeating the caress, she inched closer and brought her other hand to press against his other wing. Feeling emboldened by his continued silence, she pressed against his back and continued to stroke his wings.

Then Psyche laid her cheek against the center of his shoulder blades, where his wings grew out of his back. She continued her slow caress. The feel of his wings seemed strangely familiar, as if she had run her hands over them hundreds of times. Frowning, she tried to remember, the memory teasing along the edges of her mind, but no matter how hard she tried, the knowledge danced away from her. Before she could chase the phantom memory, she was distracted by the hiss of pleasure that her new husband released at her touch.

Eros could barely restrain himself from turning around and pinning her to the bed as lust consumed him. The feel of her bare breasts pressed against his lower back sent shards of pleasure directly to his groin, where he tightened painfully as she continued to pet him. But it was her breath teasing the sensitive nerve endings of where his wings emerged from his back that was his undoing. When she started to nuzzle him, Eros knew he had to warn her before he lost total control. “Psyche, make your choice now. I only have so much control, and I have waited so long for you that I cannot continue to let you touch me without taking you. So choose, do I stay or do I go?”

Psyche stilled at his words. Faced with the power to control even a small part of her destiny gave her courage. Feeling that something fragile and precious would be lost if she allowed him to leave this night, she made her decision. “Stay.”

But when a beautiful girl steps onto the auction stage I forget everything I’m supposed to be.
I want to claim her, no matter the cost.
So I buy her body and take everything she has to give.

Now she’s my pet, my Kitten… My Harper.
And I’m not ever letting her go.

She’s more precious than even she knows.
And our dark pasts are more connected than either of us realize.

I will ruin anyone who dares to take her from me.
Nothing will stand in between us.

Not even her.

“Come here,” he commands.
I do what he asks, stepping forward until he holds up his hand.
I’m right in front of him now, and he’s still sitting there like a greedy bastard, taking me in like I’m fine wine or something, and fuck me, it’s making me blush even harder.
Why does Marcello have this effect on me?
He fucked me like I was some kind of sex doll, and I still fawn over him like he’s the only lover I’ve ever had. Not that I’ve ever had this kind of explosive sex before.
His hand reaches for my hip, and he pulls me even closer. “You know … I’ve thought about my behavior these past couple of days, and I realize I’ve been pushing you too much into a corner,” he says, sliding my nightgown up until the pink, completely see-through panties he put in my wardrobe on purpose are exposed. “I fucked you like an animal without thinking of your needs. I was blinded by my desire to own you. But I know you’re more precious than that, kitten.”
He raises the fabric like a shroud until my belly button is exposed too, and then he leans forward and places a kiss just below it, right on my pelvic bone. It’s such a gentle, sweet, succulent kiss I almost melt away into a puddle.
“But you’ve misbehaved quite a lot as well,” he groans as he pulls back and looks up at me with darkened, hooded eyes. “And as my pet, you have to learn your place.”
I suck in a breath as he gets up from the couch, towering over me like some kind of beast. He pulls the straps of my nightgown down my shoulder until they fall and the delicate fabric pools at my feet. He caresses my naked breasts with the palms of his hands until both my nipples are peaked, and he can rub them between his fingers. My lips part to make an o-shape as I struggle to keep in the moan of delight.
I can’t give him that. I can’t give him my pleasure, too.
But he makes it so fucking hard.
He twists my nipples and tugs at them, and right then, when a moan tumbles over my lips, he covers my mouth with his, drinking the sound of my pleasure.
My eyes flash open as he kisses me softly, tender at first, as though he’s trying to find out whether I like it or hate it. I don’t know the answer as I’m overcome by the sheer shock of this mobster boss kissing me as if I actually mean something to him. But within seconds, he kisses me more greedily, hungrily, as though he can’t get enough.
It feels so fucking good my resolve is on the verge of failing me. I could sink into this kiss… let him have his way with me… admit how badly I want it, too…
But I can’t let him overtake me. I can’t let him win.
So I bite his lip.
He instantly jerks back, blood seeping from the wound he touches with his thumb. The devious look on his face doesn’t falter as he wipes off the blood and sucks it off his thumb.
“Don’t be so catty, kitten,” he murmurs. “We’re only getting started.”
He grabs my throat and squeezes, not hard but not gently either. I don’t grasp at his fingers. I stay put, defiant as always. He smiles. Then his other hand grazes my pussy, playing with the fabric of the panties until wetness seeps through.
“See? You like it,” he says, a smirk appearing on his face.
I can’t help but shriek as he rips the panties off my body.
Then he sits down and pulls me over his lap. I don’t know how it happens, it’s all going so fast, but one moment, I was still standing, and the next, he has his hand all over my bare ass.
I moan out loud.
“That’s for thinking of killing me at the gym.”
Did he see me pocket the broken piece of mirror?
Another smack follows on the other cheek. It burns.
“That’s for trying to steal documents that don’t belong to you.”
He spanks me again on both cheeks until they’re red, and I moan out loud.
“And that’s for spitting in my face and biting me.”
One more on both, and I’m panting and clenching my legs at the same time. Each smack reverberates into my pussy, causing deliciously sweet ripples of ecstasy I can’t control.
“And that’s because I like it,” he groans, and with the palm of his hand, he massages the spots he just hit. “You’ve been a naughty kitten. Tempting me. Persuading me to come to your room.”
“I didn’t do anything—”
Another spanking has me swallowing my words.
“If you want something, you’ve got to work for it. Now work for it, kitten. Show me how badly you want my cock … and maybe I’ll give it to you.”

Welcome to Dayton Valley, ranch country with a sum population of 9022. Sounds idyllic, and it is… until it isn’t

I’m back to live and work in the place I called home as a kid, Dayton Valley. I hadn’t realized how much I’d missed it, or the people. One person in particular—Jefferson Delaney. He was hot at fifteen, but now at forty-eight, damn he’s matured well.

I don’t think my lady parts will ever get over our reunion. Let’s just say we wasted no time in getting to know each other again.

Having sex with your high school boyfriend after thirty years apart isn’t too forward, right?

When I was fifteen there was a girl who rocked my world. She left and I got over it. Now she’s back and boy did she grow up—curves to die for and lips for sin.

As she’s planning my son’s wedding, I know I should keep it professional. Sometimes though, you’ve just gotta go with your gut, and when a woman needs some special kind of attention, it really doesn’t matter how swift the reunion!

Distracting your son’s wedding planner with an orgasm isn’t wrong, right?

Dayton Valley… where the men are hard, and the women are horny
