About the Author
Lin Stepp is a native Tennessean, businesswoman and educator. A New York Times, USA Today, Publishers Weekly, and Amazon best-selling international author, Lin has twenty published novels out now, including her twelve beloved Smoky Mountain novels, all set in different Tennessee and North Carolina locations, three Mountain Home books, a novella in one of Kensington’s Christmas anthologies, and four South Carolina coastal novels, including her three Edisto Trilogy books and her first release in the new Lighthouse Sisters series. As Waylon drew closer, he barely noticed the long rustic building at first because up on a ladder propped against the house was Burke, cleaning out the gutters. Hearing the golf cart, she turned to smile at him in welcome, and his heart flipped over. She wore an old blue T-shirt and cut off jean-shorts that showed off her long, tanned legs. As typical, she’d tied back her dark hair, which always lightened in the sunshine, into a ponytail behind her neck.
Watching her climb down the ladder, Waylon remembered the first time he’d noticed Burke Deveaux with physical attraction like this. She’d been walking up the beach path in a well-worn black bathing suit, laughing, smiling, and lifting a hand to wave at him. Waylon suddenly forgot the words he’d been saying to Lloyd as he stood there rooted to the spot, his heartbeat kicking up. How had he missed seeing she’d started growing from a girl into a young woman?
…“I didn’t think you’d come so soon,” Burke said, interrupting his memories and coming to give him a hug. He steeled himself to pat her fondly on the back as she did, not hugging her back in the way he really wanted to.
